Cast Your Vote For A New Cover!

For a while now I’ve been thinking of getting new covers for The Faery Trials. I absolutely love the ones I currently have, but the trends of cover design are always changing and I think it’s good to see what some other options might be.

As a test run, I decided to start with my short stories and novellas first. Below you’ll find the before and after for ‘A Coat Red As Holly.’

If you were walking through a bookstore and saw the two covers side by side, which one do you thi...

5 Fantasy Families It’s Always Fun to Visit

The quirks, the chaos, the constant battle for who’s really in charge when the adults aren’t in the room–those are just a few of the things to love about stories featuring big families in YA fantasy. Brothers and sisters may not always get along, but when adventure and danger are closing in, these five families are always there for each other. Which fantasy family would you most want to visit?

Since Jack’s problems are all because he just can’t cut his ties to Faerie, I thought I’d put together a list of some of my favorite books that follow their characters into and out of the land of Faerie too.

1) Lament: The Faerie Queen’s Deception by Maggie Stiefvater

I finished this book recently and love...

Decked Out for the Holidays

It’s not unique to say that the holidays are my absolute favorite time of year. I love splashing holiday decorations everywhere throughout my house. As a storyteller, I feel as though I’m setting the stage where my family’s stories and future memories will take place. I want my friends and family to remember sitting by the fire, wrapping ourselves in cozy coats and blankets, admiring glittering lights, and enjoying wonderful dinners and desserts.

So here’s a little peek at my home dressed for...

5 Tips for Creating Fictional Teams Audiences Will Care About

Teams play a big role in a lot of stories, but I don’t often see much time devoted to talking about how to create good team dynamics. Writing teams into a story isn’t as easy as it sounds. The more characters involved the more work has to go into making each member feel relevant. Now the types of teams you find yourself writing might differ from one story, medium, or genre to another, but the process by which you make your audience care about them as characters should stay the same. To illust...
