Irish Mythology: The Adventures of Nera

Oh my word, how long has it been? Almost a year?

2025 did not go the way I'd planned. Mental and physical health problems and nutritional deficiencies took me DOWN. There was a point this summer where I felt as if I could barely form a cohesive sentence - and yet I had an autumn book release, so I had to soldier on.

Needless to say, all my strength went into that book. But now that it's out, I want to try and get back into somewhat of a regular routine with my newsletter, podcast, and blog. I don't know what that will look like - especially because I have many other projects to finish - but I'm going to do my best!

Today is the first step. I posted the favorite folktale from October 2024, "The Adventures of Nera." This is such a spooky one from Irish mythology (although a lot of Irish mythology is just spooky in general 😂), so if you're anything like me, you'll probably love it: https://www.apmobley.com/blog/irish-m...

The most horrifying fairy from Scottish folklore

Before we're thrust into 2025, I wanted to publish one more favorite folktale to the blog.

This is probably one of my favorite articles I've written so far - all about the horrifying Nuckelavee from Scottish folklore.

You can read about the Nuckelavee here: https://www.apmobley.com/blog/the-mos...

Next month we'll be back to publishing Myth of the Months to the blog (the ones from 2022), and I promise I haven't forgotten about December 2024's podcast episode - it's coming (hopefully) tomorrow. If not tomorrow, the next day!

I'll see you next time!

The Legend of Davy Jones

Whew! It's been a while since I published a blog post, hasn't it? Sorry about that!

This time I've published another favorite folktale - this one from July 2024, all about the legend of Davy Jones. I'll probably publish one or two more favorite folktales before focusing on the Myth of the Months from 2022. I published all the Myth of the Months from 2021 in 2024, so now I'll publish the 2022 installments in 2025! (Hopefully, lol.)

You can read about Davy Jones here: https://www.apmobley.com/blog/the-leg...

The Kraken: A Scandinavian Sea Monster

Okay, just one or two more favorite folktales, and then I swear I'll start publishing the myth picks from 2022 to the blog 😅

This time I've published the favorite folktale from June 2024, which was all about the kraken, a horrifying sea monster of Scandinavian mythology and folklore. It's kind of a long article because I was *very* excited about the topic when I originally wrote the newsletter. The kraken is in some of my favorite movies - the Pirates of the Caribbean series and Clash of the Titans 1981!

You can read about the kraken here: https://www.apmobley.com/blog/the-kra...

Since the Myth of the Months from 2021 are all published to the blog, I thought I'd go back to Favorite Folktales for a little bit 😊 Don't worry, I'll start publishing the Myth of the Months from 2022 very soon!

Anyway, today I've published the favorite folktale from May 2024, which was all about squirrels in mythology and folklore from around the world. You can read it here: https://www.apmobley.com/blog/squirre...
