Jahangir Muhammad Arif is an avid reader, aspiring writer, literary reviewer, and researcher whose intellectual journey has unfolded across history, literature, society, and contemporary affairs. His engagement with writing began in the mid-1980s, through contributions to and publication in a number of little magazines and periodicals, including Pilsunj, Durbar, Phulki, Dwanda-Ananda, Ekhaney Kokhono, and Leo Voice. To date, one of Arif’s books has been published, while two others are currently at the printing stage. His writings have appeared extensively in both literary and public forums. Hundreds of his articles have been published on the online writers’ forum Sachalayatan and the publisher-blog Guruchandali. His work has also appeared in leading national newspapers, including The Business Standard, Prothom Alo, and Daily Bonik Barta. Alongside his own writing, he has contributed to more than a dozen books as an editor, contributor, or researcher.

Arif’s interests as a writer are broad and eclectic. He writes on the history of the Indian subcontinent, the Liberation War of Bangladesh, economics, contemporary issues, literature, and society. He also writes short stories, literary reviews, and travelogues, often bringing together historical curiosity, close observation, and a reflective sensibility. His interest in literature extends beyond Bangla as well; he has translated several short stories by Assamese and Bulgarian writers into Bangla, introducing readers to voices and literary worlds beyond their familiar horizons.

For Arif, writing is not merely an occupation or an act of publication; it is an enduring way of reading, observing, questioning, and making sense of the world. His body of work reflects a continuing engagement with the past and present—an attempt to understand history through human experience, to view contemporary realities through a critical lens, and to discover in literature the many ways in which people and societies tell their stories. ...more
