In all things, be filled with gratitude

There’s something I always seem to forget, especially in moments I need it most.

Being grateful.

We all know we should be grateful for what we have, no matter what may be going wrong at the time.

But it’s not always the easiest attitude to maintain.

I am going to show you how to truly remain grateful throughout life and it starts with a little change in your perspective.

Lack of gratitude is not a head problem, it’s a heart problem.

Literally. It’s not just an idea, it’s a physical phenomenon.

Simple excerises of gratitude prescribed by doctors to their patients with heart problems reavealed astounding results.

Stress decreased, ulcers healed, blood pressure dropped, hearts increased in health.

Gratitude is something our mama’s, our daddy’s, our teacher’s, or our preacher’s, have taught us since we rocked our blinking sneakers in the first grade.

But we’ve forgotten all about the magic of it. It’s been thrown around as a well-wishing reminder for so long that it has almost lost it’s meaning, and now our physicians have to remind us of it’s healing power.

To be truly grateful for a thing, I usually have to experience life without it, or at least be aware enough to understand how life would be without it.

Otherwise, this thing in question holds very little value to me. How can I be grateful for a thing I’ve never lived without?

Think about a bratty teen, who has everything, complaining about life. It’s hard to convince them to be grateful for what they DO have, when they’ve never felt what it was like WITHOUT it. And unfortunately, I behave the same way at times.

Life gives, and it takes away.

There are two ways, life, in it’s mysterious ways, teaches us the lesson of gratitude.

The most common way, and the way we can relate to most, is by takingthings, people, and experiences, away from us.

We are much too familiar with this teaching technique.

Unfortunately, sometimes the only way for us to understand the importance of gratitude for something is when it is no longer in our possession. The crappy thing is, by then, it feels more like REGRET than GRATITUDE.

The second way, and this is the way I wish I learned from most, is by giving us things, people, and experiences.

A new partner, child, friend, or opportunity comes into our lives and suddenly we experience gratitude like never before. We thank the heavens and we are truly grateful… for some time.

So how can you and I, in all things, at all times, in all places, be grateful?

How can we learn to be grateful for everything and never lose perspective again? How can we learn to be grateful without having to lose, or gain something first?

How can we maintain an attitude of gratitude, no matter what life throws our way?

It’s pretty simple, just requires a little mind trickery, a little change in perspective.

I know that for something to hold value to me, I usually have to experience life before I had it, or after I’ve had it, in order to truly be grateful for it.

If this is the case, then I can simply shift the focus of my lens, and live each day as if I am already without the things that in reality, I am with.

That last thought was deep!! If you liked that, give me a “clap,” a “like,” a “heart,” or a share at the bottom of this article and I will be grateful to you forever!!!

Live with the end in mind

There is one thing that will surely give you enough motivation to finally do the things in life you’ve been wanting to do:

And that is your death. Or… the “end.”

Death inspires us like a cat inspires a mouse.

It’s only when we remember that the end is coming, that we suddenly act like we actually want to live.

We avoid the subject at all costs but the fact that you and I will die someday, cannot be denied.

It’s probably the only thing in this world that we can actually be certain about.

Yes, it’s a crappy subject to discuss. Who wants to talk about dying!? But, the truth is, when we think about dying, it helps us also to remember to live.

There is something different about a person when he or she truly lives with the end in mind.

They behave differently.

They begin to love, appreciate, and risk more. They submit to their fears less and they worry less. They try, they fail, yet they try again.

They understand that in order to live an extraordinary life, they must always be aware that they don’t have forever. And tomorrow may not be there so they must act today. There is an urgency to their step.

When they set out to achieve great things, they look ahead at the final destination, and they work backwards in order to understand what they must do each day to get there.

You can bet people like this will have very little to regret when their time is up.

This declaration from my book, “The Mount Of Olives,” will help you live with the end in mind:

Declaration #2: Live with the end in mind.

I will live with the end in mind.

I will evaluate where I am today and this will reveal where my end will be.

The road I am currently on has only one destination. If I am not pleased with the destination, I must take another road and if I don’t, I must accept my fate. I cannot and will not simply wish for change while I continue to walk in the wrong direction.

My future will not magically change. If I wish to change my destination I must first peer through the glass of time to my last day. I must decide how I want this day to be and I must decide what I want people to say about me. And what will they say about me? Will the world mourn or will it continue without a hiccup in the day? Did I live? Did my life serve a purpose? Was my life ordinary… or was it extraordinary?

I will live with the end in mind and, if I do, I will not stray. When I am lost and weary I will stop and look ahead. I will renew my strength and continue to walk the road ahead.

Yesterday’s failures cannot stop me today as long as I live with the end in mind.

And when death comes finally knocking on my door, I’ll gladly open and invite it in, for I’ll know that I have truly lived.

I must live with the end in mind.

Starting today, live with the end in mind and I can promise you, your life will never be the same again.

P.S Keep an eye out for Declaration #3 coming later this week! And if you want to read the story that forms all 11 declarations, grab my book and be sure to give me some feedback once you have read it!

Words spoken, set life in motion

If you have ever paid close attention to the conversations you have with yourself, you will be astonished.

Most conversations we entertain within, are pure garbage.

I start with the principle, Words spoken, set life in motion, because this is where life begins. In my book, “The Mount of Olives,” this is declaration #1 for a very good reason.

If you want to know who you truly are, take some time and take inventory of your internal dialogue.

You will notice that on an hourly basis, you will justify, argue, assume, develop a fear, force a weak attempt at encouraging yourself, and then, create “what if” conversations which you then turn into actual arguments and anger towards someone.

The battle is real but the time for victory is now.

Our biggest roadblock in life is ourselves.

And holy smokes we are stubborn!

Years of conditioning will do that. Just like water flowing down a mountain, it soon finds the path of least resistance and a new creek is eventually born. From then on, the water will follow the same path every time the rain comes.

This is what we do with our internal conversations. Whether it’s an insecurity, a fear, a previous statement from someone, or an out-right lie, somewhere along the way we’ve adopted a language that does us more harm than good.

We’ve developed a playlist of things we say to ourselves the minute an idea or any form of inspiration comes in and our mind triggers the response that will take us down that path of least resistance.

What you say, what you think, how you think about it, and how you feel it, eventually becomes exactly what you see in your life.

Your words, whether they slip from your mouth, or you manage to keep them between your ears, allow the powers of this world to move and cause your life to unfold in the exact way you see it.

YOU are your greatest enemy and until you change the way you speak, internally and externally, you will remain the same.

Here is the declaration to help, from the book:

Declaration #1: Words spoken set life in motion.

I will listen diligently to every word my mind tells me and I will interrupt it. I will judge it with the seriousness I would the most heinous crime. Every thought that is destructive and speaks against what I seek — will be cast out as if it was a disease of my mind.

I must silence any evil that comes from my mind as the universe is listening. It is listening and waiting to take action with the same force that moves mountains and with the same winds which dash waves onto the rocks. The same breath which taught the sun to burn with violence and the moon to cool the night is waiting for my voice and, until now, I have only robbed myself with my words.

When my mind speaks death, I will speak life and I will out-yell the words spoken against me until the voice in my mind becomes an unstoppable force, now speaking for me.

Soon the two voices will speak in unison and two will become one again. I will speak life because words spoken set my life in motion.

Print this out if you must, but keep coming back to it and declare it over your life with power and enthusiasm.

P.S Keep an eye out for Declaration #2 coming later this week! And if you want to read the story that forms all 11 declarations, grab my book and be sure to give me some feedback once you have read it!

December 21, 2017

Here’s how to be the real you, for reals.

In a world of digital identities, it’s becoming difficult to truly know who someone is.

I’ve seen people post stupid things on social media and find them to actually be cool, driven, purposeful people when I meet them.

But mostly I’ve seen people post amazing things and find that they have very little depth to them at all, in REAL life.

What would you prefer, people to think you’re something special and you’re doing special things, or people to see that you have done special things, after you’ve done them?

Of course we’d answer the latter if asked but it’s not the way we behave.

It’s much easier to look a certain way and show a certain lifestyle than it is to truly live it out. It takes a lot more work to sit down and actually write for several hours than it does to post a picture of my laptop with a perfectly placed cup of coffee next to it, but guess which one I do more often?

You guessed it… post the picture.

But even that get’s exhausting. It’s tough to talk a certain way and put on a certain look when you know you aren’t living up to it.

You start feeling like a phony, and that’s because you are.

We all are when we are not living out OUR truths, OUR dreams, OUR goals and aspirations.

Who are you trying to be anyway?

Most of us do this because we feel like we have to.

When everyone around us is talking about how much they’re “crushing it,” a lot of pressure is placed on our shoulders… by us, to do the same.

Here’s a little bit of truth, those people are probably not crushing it. And chances are in a few months they will have already moved on to the next idea or business to be “crushing it” in.

So building up anxiety from the fake successes of others becomes a little bit of a problem.

Don’t be in such a hurry to get somewhere if you don’t know where you are going yet.

Take time and be patient in setting a clear vision for what YOU want out of life.

When you try too hard to keep up, you fall behind.

The people who are really crushing it, are doing so by knowing who they are, what’s important to them, what they want, what they believe, and where they are going.

Then, they wake up every morning and kick ass.

So… focus on YOU. Become the real you, for reals!

Let go of this fear we all have of being left behind which causes us to become someone we are not.

At the end of your days, this veil of false identity will be pulled back and the only thing that will truly matter is, did you become the person YOU were meant to become?

Ask yourself the above question daily as a reminder to be the real you, for reals.

There is a better way to live!

Thank you for reading! I just published my BOOK on extraordinary living. Find it (HERE) and a short video of it ( HERE
