Blog Tour with Charlene Raddon
[image error]
Today I’m delighted to be interviewing the inimitable Ms Charlene Raddon, author of Maisy’s Gamble!
Hi Charlene and thank you for visiting Eden’s Love Blog today!
Where do you live?
Salt Lake Valley, Utah.
How did you start writing, and when?
I never intended to write but I loved romance novels. One morning in 1980, I awoke from a fantastic dream I knew had to be in a novel. I dragged out a portable typewriter and here I am.
Where does your interest in historical romance stem from? And Westerns?
My dad loved western movies and books. I suppose I got my love of the Old West from him. As a child, I always felt I’d been in the wrong century and was living in the wrong place. Instead of a huge city, I wanted to live in a small town. In 1971, I moved to Utah.
Do you use aspects of your own life in your stories?
Yes, I do. Much of the heroine’s emotions in Tender Touch came from my first marriage.
Tell us about Maisy’s Gamble. How was it born?
It just came to me. My editor rejected it and wanted a drifter with a widow and a couple of kids and To Have and To Hold was born. But I couldn’t forget about Maisy so I worked on it sporadically between books. By the time it was finished I had become an Indie author and published it myself. I also did the cover.
Can you tell us a bit about being traditionally published versus being an Indie author? Seeing as you’re both.
To me being traditionally published means lack of freedom. You have to write the book your editor wants. And the publisher does nothing for you unless you become a bestseller. They do the distribution for you, but that’s the only advantage. However, it is an important one. I love the freedom being an Indie author gives me. A friend had a book come out recently, so I checked it out on Amazon. The first line of the blurb had an error in it, so I emailed her to tell her. She said she knew about it but couldn’t do anything except tell the publisher and they did nothing about it. I don’t have to worry about problems like that.
What’s the hardest part about your writing process? And the best?
The hardest part is coming up with the right opening and getting the story going. The part I enjoy most is after it’s finished, and I can go in and polish it until it shines.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I crochet, draw in adult drawing books, and make book covers for my cover business, Silver Sage Book Covers.com.
What’s your next project?
I’m writing the first book of a series about widows seeking husbands.
And, most importantly, where can we buy your books?
Most are on Kindle Unlimited but three of my oldest books are published worldwide.
EXCERPT:
October 1881- Pandora, Colorado
Danger rode a howling wind into Pandora, Colorado, that autumn night. A gleeful desperado, the gale scoured the town’s nooks, alleys, and yards. It iced window panes and froze puddles.
Maisy Macoubrie stood on the boarding house stoop, watching trash blow down the street, her faro bag held in front of her like a shield. She enjoyed a good storm, but tonight, her mood seemed as ragged and tense as the weather. Blessed Saints, but her back ached. Thank heaven the gambling season would be over soon, and she could go home.
Thoughts of home brought images of her son, Danny. How she missed him. He’d be fourteen next month. She’d bet he’d grown another inch since she saw him in August. If only she dared to have him with her.
The eight o’clock stage slogged past the boarding house and slid to a muddy halt in front of The Pandora House. Half a dozen men on horseback followed. Passengers bolted from the still-rocking coach into the well-lighted building. The others did the same. Once they’d all warmed up and filled their bellies, they’d want a pleasant way to pass the evening, such as gambling.
Maisy sighed. Time to go to work at the Bloated Goat Saloon.
Something darted under her skirts. She swallowed a screech and yanked up her hems.
“Soda!” Crouching, she petted the grumpy looking calico cat. “Oh, you’re wet.”
Maisy stood. “Come on, I’ll let you in, and give you something to eat.”
The cat darted inside the second she opened the door and dashed up the stairs. Leaving her faro bag beside the door, Maisy followed and let the cat into her room. “Stay off the bed until you’ve cleaned yourself.” The calico padded over to her special rug under the window and set to work licking her fur. Maisy fetched Soda’s food from the storage space in the washstand.
“Here you are.” She put several pieces of chopped, dried beef on the floor. “I have to go to work.” Maisy bent and put her hand beside the cat’s right front leg. “Come on, shake with me like I taught you.”
She almost chuckled at the look of disgust on Soda’s face, but the cat raised her paw. “Good girl. I’ll see you later.”
She’d no sooner stepped back out on the front porch than Lenny Goodman dashed up the steps. “’Evening, Miss Maisy.”
“Good evening, Lenny. Did Nose send you?” In the light from his lantern, his face looked older than fourteen years. His eyes displayed a sort of wisdom and disillusionment in their depths that aged him. His chin showed the promise of a beard he would soon have to start shaving. It wouldn’t be long before Danny would be doing the same.
“Yep. Said it was too dark for you to have to find your way to the saloon without a lantern.” He took her bag from her as she descended the steps to the boards laid over the muddy road in drier weather—her landlord’s idea of a boardwalk.
Lenny held up the light while Maisy maneuvered the makeshift pathway. Before reaching the boardwalk that fronted the stores, the rain had soaked her cloak and skirt hems.
“I stepped in a deep mud puddle back there,” Lenny said, joining her in front of the Sims Café and Bakery. “Need to scrape it off.” He went to work, using the edge of the porch to relieve him of the gunk. “You want to take the lantern with you and go on?”
Maisy glanced toward the Bloated Goat Saloon. Light from the windows showed on the boardwalk. “No, I’ll be all right, Lenny. Thank you.”
She took her bag from him and went on. Storm doors kept the weather out of The Goat, but they also blocked the light the shorter, swinging doors would have allowed to escape. Maisy peered over her shoulder to check on the boy and walked into something solid and unmovable.

Excerpt
ANDREW
As she slips into the water with me, Amanda’s breasts bob, floating to the surface. Being in here is like no other moment we spend together. Explaining what it’s like to be in the water with her is like trying to describe a kiss. You can do it, but why? Unique expressions of who we are don’t translate.
“It’s so warm,” she tells me, delight floating across her face like sunshine between the leaves of an oak tree, the water and light in the cocoon of the lap pool spinning magic.
“I turned up the heat. I know you like it warm.”
“Doesn’t that make it impossible for you to do laps?”
“No. I’m not competing anymore.” I reach for her, hands enjoying the slippery magic of her skin. She kicks toward me, one hand on the pool’s ceramic-tiled edge, the other on my shoulder, pressing down. My feet are on the bottom but the feel of her next to me, weightless as she moves in for a kiss, makes all my boundaries dissolve.
We are the water.
Dipping under the surface, she runs her hands down the length of my legs, first skimming the outer edge of my thighs, then skimming over knees and calves. She slides an appreciative hand up between my legs before breaking the surface, her hair wet and flat against her scalp, her hand leaving me to wipe her face.
“Tease,” I say.
“I’m a sure thing.” Kicking her legs, she smiles at me. “Thanks for turning up the heat.”

OUT NOW: Eden Walker’s Escape – always trust your instincts #Decadent Publishing
[image error]
New Release ~ ESCAPE by Eden Walker
Even though she’s a couples therapist, Sabine is struggling to understand her romantic decisions. Why would anyone ditch a fantastic guy like her surgeon-boyfriend Thomas, after just one month of living with him? She has no good reason. But plenty of strong feelings. Worse still, she’s signing up with the 1Night Stand agency, which simply isn’t like her. She’s telling herself it’s just because she can—a way to mark a new beginning.
Sabine’s the anonymous lady in white Simon’s been told to meet at the Cape Point Castillo Resort at the tip of South Africa. Right alongside the ocean, where he nearly died. Simon’s amused Madame Eve hooked him up with a therapist. Because he sure has a lot to talk about. One look at gorgeous Sabine, and talking’s the last thing on his mind. He needs her to know him, so he comes up with a game plan.
In Sabine’s eyes he’s tall, dark and handsome and he’ll do nicely, but alarm bells start ringing when he doesn’t behave like your average one night stand date. Is she in danger? Can she trust this man in a raincoat, who entices her onto a windswept beach at night, or should she run a mile? Because something sinister’s going on. He’s injured. He knows her real name. And he didn’t come to the 1Night Stand service in the usual way. Right now he’s a survivor with one helluva story, and she’s a woman with a heap of unanswered questions.
Yet they’ve been brought together for a reason. And been told to stay for breakfast. What does Madame Eve know that they don’t?
Extract
He was really incredibly laid-back and at ease. Like you could tell him you were a serial killer and he would say, “Really? So, what are the hours like?” As if he was having a whole heap of fun doing this living thing. How very different from Thomas, who was quite serious and sometimes a bit moody from exhaustion.
“Did you come here to meet another…woman?” My tone implied, another wife.
He got my meaning. “No….” And yet he sounded unsure.
“Then what?”
“I had another woman. My wife and I separated, and in that time, well….”
I knew it. “A one-night stand?”
He smiled. “Hardly. Though we did meet under similar circumstances. A rebound relationship, I think the term is.”
“And your wife found out and divorced you?”
“Nope. One day she turned up at my house, wanting to reconcile. I was willing, for my son. And I hid it. The other relationship, I mean, which I ended. We carried on with our marriage. She never knew. Is that…an affair? I’m not sure.” He said it thoughtfully but without overt shame or guilt. “When my wife and I first split, we’d been out of love for the longest time. In fact, we were starting to hate each other. But with a child, you know, it’s difficult. My son, Joachim. He was three when I left. So, we had counseling. We carried on. I did it for him.”
I shifted in my seat and gently removed my hand from Simon’s. I wasn’t here to talk about family, his or mine. It was making things way too real, too close to the bone. “Are you going to tell me what happened to your arm?” I asked, changing the subject.
“It’s my hand, actually.” He lifted it from the table and held it up comically in front of him, palm toward me. “It’s a bit of a limp fish.” In this position, I could see the fingers were different from his other hand, weaker. And there were scars across the thumb, running down the wrist and disappearing under the cuff of his crisp white shirt.
“An accident?”
“No, it was deliberate.”
“What? Sorry, I’m a psychologist,” I confessed, “I ask a lot of questions.”
Simon threw his head back and laughed uproariously. Several people in the bar turned their heads to stare at him. I wished he would stop.
“I don’t see the joke.”
“Perhaps Madame Eve thinks I need to talk.” He leveled a look at me, his eyes glittering. “After we reconciled, my wife tried to kill me, you see.”

Blurb:
Nikolas Jinsen, police mole and mafia odd-job man, is given an ultimatum; stop seeing his girlfriend, or lose his job. When a hasty attempt to keep both goes wrong, he does the only thing he can think of: he lies. But with his new roommate a member of the elite gang that Nikolas has been tasked to look into, and his assignations with his girlfriend constantly interrupted by calls on his services as a lover, Nikolas finds that work isn’t all fun and games.
For Queen and Country is a light-hearted erotic crime novella with LGBT themes.
Excerpt:
There’s something about fucking people I hate that I absolutely love.
It’s partly the pleasure. I can make them writhe, moan, plead for me to just keep doing what I’m doing. I can stop, teasing and taunting, sliding in and out slowly, flicking a clit or a nipple with my fingers or tongue. I can reduce them to a begging, panting mess just by using my body and my cock.
And it’s partly the sense of power. It’s being able to bend them naked over whatever I want, grip their hips, thrust in again and again. I love the way my hips slam into their skin, the way my fingers pinch and tug flesh, eliciting moans of pleasure even when I’m hurting them.
And it’s definitely the ability to make them orgasm. I can make them scream and groan, squirt over my fingers or pulse cum over their skin. I can draw it out, getting that build-up oh oh oh! until it snaps and they shake, jerking under me, held by my hands and cock and mouth as they can’t control their pleasure.
To see someone I hate at my command, helpless under my tongue, is really satisfying.
Case in point: Tanya Mardos. Blonde, large-breasted, round-assed, and quite frankly one of the biggest bitches I’ve ever met. She was a bitch to my girlfriend, and she’s a bitch to most of the people around her. She’s also a grade-A bitch when it comes to business, mostly because she doesn’t shy away from the illegal side of things.
She’s usually quite nice to me, but that’s because I have a cock and I know how to make her come—multiple times, if necessary. I’m a tool that she likes, especially right now, because I’ve just given her a screaming orgasm in her favourite position: up against the floor-to-ceiling windows of her penthouse, with everyone outside able to see her hot, naked body.
Not that they can, incidentally, because security dictates the glass is one-way. But it’s a fantastic illusion, and considering Tanya is an exhibitionist, she makes the most of it.
She’d just finished making the most of it, and headed back into the room to pick up a drink from the desk as I wiped my face and remembered how to breathe.

Excerpt:
Susie Parmenter let out a heavy sigh and closed her book, then put it down on the table beside her. She closed her eyes and let her head loll back on her shoulders, enjoying the warmth of the summer sunshine on her skin, which was pleasant but not too hot. It wasn’t the book that was boring her—under normal circumstances, she’d have been riveted by the crime fiction novel featuring a hunky lead detective—it was life. Just lately, her world had become so dull, so predictable, that she just couldn’t summon any enthusiasm for anything.
The worst of it was, she couldn’t tell anyone. It was a problem so utterly first world it was embarrassing. Humiliating, even. Admitting her permanent state of apathy would be ridiculous, and she doubted anyone would understand where she was coming from, anyway. After all, how could you possibly tell your friends, your family, your husband, that you were bored out of your damn mind when you had, quite literally, everything? Since winning a lottery jackpot twelve months ago, Susie and her husband, Peter, had had their worlds turned completely upside down.
At first, of course, it had been amazing. They had won more than enough money to live incredibly lavish lifestyles for the remainder of their years—even if they lived to be very old indeed. So, once the cash was safely in the bank, they’d quit their jobs. Then they’d taken off on an incredible round-the-world trip, spending much of their travel time plotting and planning what else they were going to spend their winnings on. By the time they arrived home, they were ready to hire an architect to draw up plans for a custom-build home. Another two weeks later, they’d found and purchased the plot of land, and were talking to builders. Things moved fast—but then, Susie had found that was often the case when large sums of money were involved.
Now their dream home was complete. It was, naturally, stunning. The huge house stood high on a hillside in the Derbyshire countryside, with only a handful of other properties in sight. It was situated so that from one side of the house, you could watch the sun rise in the morning, and from the other, you could watch it set in the evening. There was a covered and heated swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a gym, a home cinema… everything a person could possibly need or want, and then some.
They employed a cleaner and a gardener, so aside from cooking meals three times a day—if they didn’t eat out or order takeaway, that was—there was nothing to do around the house. Susie had moved the furniture umpteen times, which was a novelty at first, given their old house had been so small that every single item had a place that it fitted into—barely, in some cases—and that was that. She now found herself swapping pictures around and tweaking the positions of ornaments on a regular basis, often putting them back where they’d been to start with.
She’d gotten into a routine of using the pool, gym, and sauna every morning, but that still left hours and hours of the day just waiting to be filled.
It was all right for Peter—he might have ditched his job, but these days his time was divided between playing golf, and being involved in a bunch of stuffy business boards. She didn’t really understand what he did at the meetings, if she was honest, but it didn’t matter. What did matter was that, only weeks after moving in to their beautiful new home, Susie’s boredom was at fever pitch. She was climbing the walls. Surely even board meetings were more exciting than this?

Released on June 15th 2018 from Sinful Press, In Bed with the Enemy is the new LGBT erotic crime novella by Ellie Barker, and is the second novella in the Undercover Lovers trilogy.
In Bed with the Enemy continues the story of Nikolas, a bisexual police mole, and Sky, a transgender thief, as they work to infiltrate the local crime syndicate. Excerpt:
I pulled out my phone.
Bear answered within two rings. “Nikolas! This is a pleasant surprise.”
“I changed my mind about that nightcap, if the offer’s still open,” I told him.
“Why the change of heart?” He sounded a bit surprised.
“I can’t stop thinking about you.” And actually, it was true. I wanted to know what he was like in bed. How far down that beard went. What was under that suit. What he looked like when he came.
“I thought you didn’t do one-offs?”
“Sky wants to hear all about it afterwards.”
I heard the bellow of laughter down the phone, and then he came back on the line, still chuckling. “Well, I can’t disappoint her, can I. When?”
“What’s wrong with now?”
Forty-five minutes later, I was getting out of a taxi at the foot of a tower block. Ten minutes had been picking up a bottle of wine that I liked, wondering if he’d like it, checking with Sky—who told me she didn’t have a fucking clue and I’d just got her killed, which meant she was playing something with Benny—and going back to my original choice. And now I was here, looking up at the lit windows above me and thinking about Tanya’s exhibitionism.
I’d wondered about getting a hotel room, but Bear had invited me over and I’d accepted. It meant if there was a trap I was walking into it, but then a hotel room had a veneer of anonymity that I didn’t necessarily like. Sky knew where I was going, and had offered to come and rescue me if needed—and that meant she could potentially bring both the Queen and Tanya’s resources down on someone’s head. Tanya Mardos didn’t care about much in the world, but I figured she’d probably have something to say if her current sex toy wasn’t available on demand.
And so I headed for the main door and pushed the button for the flat intercom.
“Yes?” Bear’s voice said almost immediately.
“Nikolas.”
“Come on up.”

Excerpt
Sheagan blinked back the sting in her eyes as sweat drizzled from her forehead. Her shoulders and forearms cried out as determination inched her body forward through the tin walls that framed her slender figure. The narrow shaft rendered her legs useless as they dragged behind her like dead weight. She made a vow to start working out as she approached her destination, the metal grate that looked down into the sweetheart suite of the Eliot Hotel.
She shimmied her binoculars out of her bag and clutched them in her sweaty palms as she readied herself to delve into the world of private investigating. The friction of her movements caused her mahogany mane to cling to all the surfaces of her temporary confinement. Perched behind the filigree frame, peering like a caged animal, she was a mere 20 feet from her target. Her target? The Rat Bastard, who up until this very moment she’d called boyfriend.
She wasn’t there to kill him, even though the thought had crossed her mind; no, she was there to catch him in the act. She suspected he had been cheating on her for some time, so proof would end her suspicion or the relationship. Spying on her significant other through an air-vent of a swanky hotel room was hardly a promising start to her so-called glamorous career as a private detective. But it snapped her back into the reality that her new chosen profession would often be messy and difficult.
She peered through the grate and envied the spacious room below, but her viewing angle was no good for the task at hand. She could feel the heat in her cheeks rise along with her anger as she scanned the room and soaked in the extravagance–the hardwood tables, the Italian marble fireplace, the opulent sheen of the fabric on the overstuffed furniture that glimmered in the soft candlelight. The Rat Bastard was not known to overindulge on frivolous expenses, unless it was on her dime. Thoughts of killing him resurfaced.
What is wrong with me? Why did I wait so long?
She immediately regretted the fleeting question. She knew why. The answer brought back the pain and significance of her father’s sudden death. He had been the only family she had left, and he was gone. All that was left behind was his detective agency. She had thought about giving it up, but she couldn’t; it was her only connection to him, to her family.
She closed her eyes briefly, realizing that now she was facing more loss–even if he was a lying, cheating Rat Bastard.
No! It’s better this way, stay focused.
She choked in a breath and turned her attention back to the room. His secret love nest was finished with soothing tones on the walls and thick, plush carpeting.
What is that on the end table?
Her gaze was drawn to the bottle label as it bobbed upside down in the melting ice. She sharpened the focus of her binoculars, and her eyes widened in recognition.
Her cheeks flushed. Cristal, she scoffed. Who is this Bimbo, anyway?
As if she had room to criticize this girl’s intelligence, when Sheagan was the one sweating her makeup off in a four-by-four-foot air-duct.
Yeah, who ’ s the stupid one?
She heard passionate sounds coming from the right of the room and recognized his tone. Leaning sideways, Sheagan pressed her face to the grate, but her limited
view revealed only a portion of the bed and unable to make out major details, like faces.
Crap, I can’t see anything. Damn! She needed to get a better look
As she shifted her weight, the metal walls started to reverberate and Sheagan stifled a gasp, willing the rumbling to cease. Her breathing became labored as the musty air stole the aroma of the sweet perfume wafting up waft from the suite below. She stilled her movements and did the only thing she could think of… nothing. Nothing but stare at the heap of blankets and wait.
Come on, bimbo, come up for air. I know he doesn’t last that long.
Her discomfort increased as the noise from their passion became more intense. Ugh, that’s it, I’ve had it!
She mashed her cheek and upper body against the grate.
I just need a peek to confirm.
She pressed harder, ogling the bed. Finally, she caught a tiny glimpse.
Just a little further.
She pushed and heard a chirring sound, then a scraping. She froze in place, but
the grate gave way with a creaking groan and crashed to the ground. Time stood still as Sheagan realized there was nothing between her and the floor except air.

Shopping for a Billionaire’s Baby by Julia Kent – out now! #RomCom
[image error]
This looks absolutely fantastic and hilarious! Enjoy!
Out Now—Shopping for A Billionaire’s Baby (Book 13 in the Shopping series) by Julia Kent
Release date: April 24, 2018
Genre: Romantic Comedy, Contemporary Romance
Description:
You know what’s even better than marrying a billionaire? Having his baby.
We’re ready. We’ve studied and planned, read all the birth and labor books, researched parenting classes, consulted our schedules, and it’s time.
And by we I mean me.
Declan’s just ready for the “have lots of sex” part. More than ready.
But there’s just one problem: my husband and his brother have this little obsession with competition.
And by little, I mean stupid.
That’s right.
We’re not just about to try to bring a new human being into the world.
We have to do it better, Faster, Stronger.
Harder.
McCormick men don’t just have babies.
They engage in competitive billionaire Babythons.
I thought the hardest part about getting pregnant would be dealing with my grandchild-crazed mother, who will go nuts shopping for a billionaire’s baby.
Wrong.
Between conception issues, my mother’s desire to talk to the baby through a hoo-haw cam, a childbirth class led by a drill sergeant and a father-in-law determined to sign the kid up for prep school before Declan even pulls out, my pregnancy has turned out to be one ordeal after the other.
But it’s nothing — nothing — compared to the actual birth.
Shopping for a Billionaire’s Baby is the newest book in Julia Kent’s New York Times bestselling romantic comedy series and is a 400+ page full-length novel.

Excerpt:
“This conception stuff has you thinking. Philosophically, I mean,” Andrew notes, suddenly paying close attention to me.
“Of course. It’s powerful.”
“How? It’s just sex.”
I snort. “I thought so, too. Until I had sex where I tried to get her pregnant on purpose.”
Vince, Gerald, and Andrew all take a step closer to me.
“Bareback,” Vince whispers, like the word itself is holy.

Excerpt:
She’d undressed, and I was admiring her from behind, enjoying the faint curve of her hips and her definitely gropeable buttocks…I might have tested that on the way home. But it was as she stepped back and raised her arms above her head, lifting her bright blue hair, that I realised I’d seen her before.
She’d had shorter hair, then, as black as night. She’d been dressed in practical trousers and a t-shirt, and carrying a bag full of tools; an electrician’s apprentice, fixing lights in an office building. They’d been in and out before anyone had realised some rather valuable documents had been copied and somehow removed from the building despite the security.
I’d idly wondered if the maintenance crew I’d walked past had been involved. After all, it wasn’t a dissimilar cover to one that I’d occasionally employed for jobs…
Sky. Thief, seductress, gambler and heartbreaker. This slim, dark-eyed thing in my bed was that legend.
Well, I can’t refuse a chance to fuck a legend. I’d just have to discuss her previous activities with her when we’d finished this business.
That train of thought came to a very nice conclusion as she turned to me, lifting her arms and stretching, taking my open mouth and caught breath as appreciation. “Lost for words?”
I managed a smile. “I’ve never been one for talking when I could express my appreciation in…other ways.”
She fitted perfectly across my hips, her strong legs pressing on my thighs. I felt her cock slide against my stomach, leaving a wet trail in contrast to the warmth of the smooth skin. Her mouth pressed onto mine as I pulled her closer, and we spent a while like that, chests pushed together and skin sliding as my hands explored her body and her tongue teased mine, her long fingers winding into my hair.
“All right, enough,” I said when it got too distracting, pushing her shoulders back a little to get some distance. “I want in you.”
Author Bio:
Ellie mostly writes short’n’dirty flash fiction and short erotic fiction in any genre going. She prefers vampires over werewolves, and is always hot for a rainy night.
