J. Elliott has written three novels in a funny, Buddhist-theme-dusted, cozy series set in Florida (Monkey Mind, Monkey Heart, and It's a Haint Blue Christmas). The next installment is due out by May 2026.
A huge fan of the classic ghost story tradition, Elliott grew up watching The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. She loves creepy, uncanny stories especially when funny and unease collide. She's published four collections of spooky short stories (Ghost Lite, Tales from Kensington & Other Macabre & Unsettling Offerings, Uncanny Stout and The Odds.) If you seek true horror, these will be way too light for you.
In 2024 she published her first ghost story novel, Jiko Bukken set in Japan in 1993.

What’s New?

Hello Haint fans!

Not to fret, Monkey Soul is on the way. I’m hoping to get it done in time for Mother’s Day 2026. It may be late, but by mid-summer if not May. Meanwhile, I’ve just published the latest collection of short stories. This is truly a collection of misfits. As I’ve done before, each story has a note about its inspiration. And while all my stories are all my babies, I confess I hav

I know it's odd to post video stuff on a BOOK page but I bet you'll like this too. An adaptation of M.R. James' Haunted Doll House. This one is memorably creepy and so well done!

J. Elliott Hi Jinx The Poet!

I'm attaching links here to my favorite recorded story, "Smee" by Burrage. The visual is blinky and annoying, so don't watch it, just listen. The narrator's voice is grand and it has sound effects. Not scary but very atmospheric. Hope you like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muJyi...

Jinx:The:Poet {the LiteraryWanderer & WordRoamer} Hello J. Elliot, thanks for the friend request! Per your message/invite, I very much understand traversing and sometimes even falling down rabbit holes while reading. Reading’s an adventure that way. =) If you ever have any Victorian ghost stories to recommend, always feel free to send them my way. Very cool to meet you! =)

Peace & happy reading, Jinx
