Professional Assertiveness Demystified (1)

I’ve seen how beiAshraf Ibrahimng shy and silent in the workplace can be devastating in the long term. I’ve seen careers ruined, hard-working people dismissed, and great initiatives gone down the drain because some people made bad decisions (deliberately or unintentionally) and
the people around them didn’t have the emotional stamina or the skill to stand up and face them. The sometimes-devastating consequences of passivity are what led me to take up the challenge of writing about assertiveness in the workplace, and that led to this book: “PASS: Your Pass to Professional Assertiveness”.

There are several books on the market talking about assertiveness, all of them written by great experts and carry valid information, so the big question is:
What can this book contribute that others may have missed?

There are three significant dilemmas in becoming more assertive, and those are the issues that I will try to demystify in this book.

Most experts talk about assertiveness as a single entity and a whole subject. They use techniques and examples that they believe will suit both social and professional environments. In this book, I’m focusing on being assertive in business and in the workplace (I call it Professional ASSertiveness, or PASS), which I believe to be a completely different entity than the style of assertiveness that’s useful in social life, like with family and friends (I call it Social ASSertiveness, or SASS).

I start my book by explaining the differences between them, and how having a specific approach to assertiveness in the workplace can make all the difference between professional failure and success.
