I'm writing a book that has a lot of fight scenes. But they're not like, action movie-superhero type fight scenes, just high school fights. Do you know how I might make them interesting?

To answer your question:
My background is music and I think I reflect that in my writing as well. In slow songs, it's easier to sing longer lyrics, while in uptempo-tunes, shorter lines are required. When the overall tone of a scene is calm, dreamy or gloomy, I'll use longer sentences and write comparisons or descriptions. So in fight scenes, I go short and to the point. Sometimes rhythmic too, like a metal song punching you in the eardrums. No need to elaborate there. Everybody knows what a kick to the stomach feels like.(less)
