I'm a teacher, scientist and writer. I teach at a rural school and kind-of farm in one of the most beautiful places on earth - the top of the South Island, New Zealand. We've just sold off a bunch of feral sheep so we can have a crack at carbon sequestration for real – a no-brainer when you've got a bit of land and that's what your books are about. And your sheep are crazy wild anyway.

I've got three children, two dogs and a partner who spends around half his time at sea.

Children Of The Furnace was my first book and the critical reception was absolutely amazing – and then it was a finalist in the New Zealand Book Awards 2019! It was fantastic to go to a red carpet event in Wellington and have that kind of recognition.

If I was normal weedy self and not wanting to risk death, I’d go to Longbourn and sit around being amused by Elizabeth Bennett - or better still, go on her tour of Derbyshire and visit Pemberley, and giggle as she grows to like Mr Darcy.

He ate my arms and legs, then left.

The aliens crawl in through ears from cellphones, and they’re eating your brains.
I worried I was going crazy when you didn’t believe me, but now I know it’s not your fault, it's them – so I’m gonna dig those aliens out.

Coronavirus mega-deaths are a lie – a scamdemic – a conspiracy – or the Wuhan lab’s fault.

Everyone in this book is damaged. But they are not strong and damaged, they are not healing from damage, they are not fighting their ways back into life. They are destructive, seeking to damage more. They damage the" Read more of this review »

"Yikes! I really didn't like this book, which is a shame as unlike many of the reviewers here, I paid for it. In hardback. Damn! I feel like such a sucker.

The plot is basically this - a vapid couple roams the barren wasteland that used to be southern " Read more of this review »

The Paradoxical Commandments

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.”
