Read my op-ed in TIME Magazine — “How Public Schools Cherry-Pick Their Students”

I’m honored that TIME ran this piece about the forgotten issue of public school access. Especially on the anniversary of the historic ruling in Brown v. Board of Education.
Writing almost 70 years ago this week, Chief Justice Earl Warren issued the court’s ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, pledging that all public schools in the U.S. must be “available to all on equal terms.” But seven decades later, that promise remains unfulfilled.

We won! Our new book takes home the prestigious Baldersquash Medal

This is a very mysterious award, and I’m not sure how much we’re allowed to say about it. It honors “the very best in highfalutin nonsense” (which I think is supposed to be a compliment). They claim to have been in existence since 1894.
When I learn more, I’ll report back…I promise.

Read an excerpt of my new book in the magazine Education Next
After seven long years of research and writing, my new book finally comes out tomorrow. Education Next published an excerpt this week, in which I describe how many public school attendance zones violate federal civil rights law:
Heres the short video that makes the case:

Pandemic Diaries
Rod Dreher, the conservative Christian writer who blogs at American Conservative, published my Pandemic Diary this morning on his blog. (The New Yorker ran a great profile of Rod several years ago.)

My leg likes it. But my body doesn’t like it.
Fascinating conversation between my 5-year-old daughter and her friend Calvin in the backseat of the car (pre-quarantine).
Neve: Calvin, do you like my dads favorite song?
Calvin: No I dont. My leg likes it. But my body doesnt like it.
Neve: Your leg is a part of your body.
[beat]
Neve: My body doesnt like it either.
(Either pronounced as the British do it.)
