To blog or not to blog
Right. Or rather, write. That's what I'm here to do. But what to say? I'm a beginner at this blogging stuff.
Well, I'd like to write about The Red Tunic and how I came to write it, so here goes.
I've long been fascinated by the First World War - such a flowering of literature and art; such bravery; such hopelessness; so many promising lives cut short for such empty reasons. I've always wanted to write about it. My favourite WW1 novel is Birdsong. The first time I read it, I cried. And the second time. And the time after that. I realised I could never reach similar heights, but I wanted to try.
I knew that women had always infiltrated war zones, sometimes disguised as men, and I wanted to explore this. When I started researching this subject, I got a huge surprise. So many women! So many clever disguises! It was a real eye-opener and I wanted to explore the subject. I'll write some more about women who successfully disguised themselves as soldiers at a later date. It's a fascinating subject.
Now a confession: when I was at school, I was in love with boy in the 6th form. I found out later that he liked me too, but we never confessed to our feelings and never got together. That boy is Liam in the Red Tunic. It's kind of my chance to explore how our relationship would have been.
That's enough blogging for now, I think. Thanks for reading this. :)
