I write fantasy novels. I respect the tropes of this genre, but add my own voice to the stories.

My latest book, THE GODS' MAGICIAN, is a dark fantasy/sword & sorcery novel in which the hero is always a thief, occasionally a pirate, and an enchanter when needed. This is the first book in a suspenseful series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. Amazon link: https://shorturl.at/75U5t

I've also recently published a literary, historical fantasy, THE JINN AND THE TWO KINGDOMS. Its the first in a new series set in medieval Spain, Arabia, and a mythical kingdom of jinn. As the blurb states: 'Thiago doesn't think of himself as a demon, but he is. He's a thief too, and therein lies this story.' Available on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3yS4kJG

Sorry for my tardy response!

Great question - this happened at many points as I was writing my novel, THE LORDS OF OBLIVION. Most authors deal with this at some point and, surprisingly, I think that being blocked can sometimes be a positive, productive sign. It might mean that your subconscious is carefully considering what/how to write instead of just cranking out the next page of mundane prose. Once the block finally lifts you may be more inspired than ever to write something really cool. Having said this, there's another type of less productive block - being so distracted by non-writing activities (reading other authors' stuff, binge watching GOT, cleaning the closet, too many glasses of Cabernet with friends, etc) that you never get around to actually writing anything. My only real advice here is set up a (realistic) schedule to write (or outline or research) your next work. Even 15 minutes staring at your screen if it's done to a schedule can help. Good luck!! Sorry for my late response!

While there are huge frustrations to being a writer, the best thing is that you have a license to use your imagination. There are very few other activities where this is true.

For my dark fantasy, THE LORDS OF OBLIVION, the really fun part was using my creativity to develop characters (for my story, a 1500 year old conjurer who looks like he's only 30 years old, a haunted Tesla electric car, a not so tame wolf), plots (hero tries to prevent an earthquake from leveling a city), and settings (the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco in my case). Being an author means you can dream this stuff up out of thin air and hopefully share it with others. (less)

Good Review for THE GODS’ MAGICIAN

Must read 🏆

Utterly immersive and inventive character-driven sword and sorcery fantasy

Kelrik of Ebon Crossing is skilled in enchantments, but not quite a sorcerer; he can hold a blade, but isn’t an actual swordsman; he has sailed the Sapphire Sea, but isn’t entirely a pirate, and he can read ancient scrolls, but isn’t exactly a scholar. He is what he needs to be in order to support his thievery
