Changing Trains

Changing Trains is my first novel.

After a busy week in the newsroom, editor Sam is looking forward to relaxing on his regular eurostar journey from London to his second home in the south west of France.
But a chance encounter at the busy station compels him back to a time in the 1980s, when he travelled parts of Europe by train alone and in search of adventure, self discovery and his place in the world.
It was a time before the digital age had shrunk the world, a time just before mobile devices, the internet and social media. When being abroad meant being pretty much cutoff altogether from family, friends and the familiar.
As he travels across Europe, with its weird currencies, border controls, beaches and strange cuisine, Sam yearns to understand his own nature, his relationship with others and the countries he visits.
As he travels by Inter-rail through France, Spain, Monaco and Italy, Sam learns new languages, new customs and new feelings…
