John Ozmore was born in Tucson, Arizona on January 19th, 1979. Born into an abusive environment, his first memory is of blood. After living in a foster home for a year John was adopted at the age of five in La Luz, New Mexico to the Ozmore family. The wounds have healed but the scars remain acting like a portal into the imagination. The worlds John Ozmore creates are both fascinating and frightening, blending elements of Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Horror into an imaginative landscape.

John enjoys hiking the Ozarks and getting outdoors to find hidden treasures in photographs of nature and has a photo published in a National Geographic article. He likes painting, taking apart old typewriters to redesign them, and collecting bones and driftwood to c ...more

How do you deal with writer’s block?

If I a…moreIn a first draft I want to get my story down. Many chapters may only have one sentence that tells me what needs to happen to further the story. If I am in the mood the writing will flow, otherwise I have to get done what I can. I save research tidbits for later by adding a symbol to get back to it. When I get writer's block there are a few fall backs I have prepared to get over it. Read! Find books that match the genre and read. Even a bad book will give inspiration that you can do better. Research whatever scene you are in. For example if characters are trying to navigate a glacier maze, go find out the details of what it takes to do it, length of rope, tying off to each other, etc. everything you can within reason of what your characters are dealing with. Find stories of people who have been through a similar situation: magazine articles, books, short stories, etc. Do not plagiarize, but get ideas and inspiration for your own story. Watch documentaries that show a close approximation of the environment you are writing about to have fresh ideas and submerge yourself into the character's environment. If you can travel to a location in person and gain life experience, even better. Writer's block is also a great time to just go back and edit and get re-acquainted with the situations you have put your character through. You may find a hidden piece of the puzzle in the past to help get your ideas flowing again. More than anything, just try, sit down at your computer, typewriter, ipad, or whatever your medium and at least spend a little time at the keys, even if it's just to stare blankly at the screen. If you wait for inspiration, you may never get done. The inspiration will come naturally if you put in some effort. Of course, sometimes you just need to take a break and clear your mind. Fresh eyes with which to see. I have two projects going at any one time. When I get burned out on one or have writer's block for too long then it's time to switch mindsets and have fresh eyes when I get back to the other project. When all else fails, read true stories of feral children, they are always fascinating. (less)

I can get lost in a character's mind and having to solve problems from their perspective broadens my own. I can say anything I want and do anything I want, in a world of my choosing. I like the strange things I learn while researching a character or environment and the amazing stories and people I've met along the way. (less)
