Do You See

Death comes to those who are right and those who are wrong.
Death is a gift for the weak and the strong.
Death has no quarrel over religion or skin.
Death takes the righteous and those that do sin.
Death has no friends but some seek its hand
Death has no feeling, but does understand……

That the past has been lived but now it has died.
The future’s not certain and that makes some terrified.
The present is all we’ve got and it’s ours to be used,
But life created death and death is not confused.

The Lovers

With a heart that was open but eyes that were closed,

She found a safe place and within she dozed.

In her sleep, she saw a star way up high

And she listened as it sang a soulful lullaby.

“I feel your sobbing heart through the soles of my feet,

But I pray the day is prolonged until finally, we meet.

Your body I caress through my spirit and soul,

But no wish nor truth can make my own body whole.”

Deeper she slept, but the dream didn’t fade,

No matter how much she tried, in her heart it still laid.

Trying to forget, praying for release

She sang in silence in search of that peace.

“I feel your heart and I feel your pain,

I imagined that at my side you’d always remain.

But death took you away and left me here,

With the doubts that surround me, filling me with fear.”

The star returned, now lower in the sky,

A tear she saw as it began to cry.

She wiped that tear with a lock of her hair,

Placed it in her heart and left it there.

The tear was returned when his hand touched her own,

As she made her way skyward no longer alone.

The lovers became one when her life slipped away,

Now in heaven, together, the lovers now lay!

Poetry

When I was a young man the first thing on my mind was the opposite sex. Next came rugby in the winter and cricket in the summer. Academic studies were not high on my list of priorities. However, there was one poet who stuck in my mind and it wasn’t so much his work that I remember, it was the brevity he used to express emotions or paint an image. That man was Percy Bysshe Shelley and I can’t even remember how to pronounce his middle name.

Some of his poems were not brief they went on and on and on to the delight of poetry aficionados, but not me. The telling of a long-winded poem to a beautiful girl was not a priority. However, succinct poetry that drove a spear through all resistance was!

This old poem of mine is influenced by Shelley’s great command of the simplistic.

The Girl In The Heart

To rise from this barren earth
To soar above, to wing away
To escape from all that’s lacking
And live to love another day

A Fool

A Fool.

A fool is the one who can’t comprehend,
That to make a beginning one must have no fear of an end.
The end comes to us all, but how does it take place?
A fool never starts, in the hope of saving face.

To try is so worthy; to say no is a worthless choice,
What a fool pronounces loudest in the highest of voice.
Knocks come aplenty in a life that’s been led to the full.
But there’s no wisdom one can impart to a fool.

To Pay The Price

To Pay the Price

I sit and wish for silence bereft of any sound.
But echoes of saddening voices are resounding all around.

I hear people in the shadows that pass noisily in the night,
They make me wish for anonymity and be hidden out of sight.

Is loneliness so full of sadness that it’s so hard to recognise,
Or is the taste in the tears of sorrow that are waiting to be cried?

It feels as if pain waits in every doorway, every place I go?
Does it lurk on every corner? Does know what I know?

Will staying away from shadows make the evil go away?
Or can solitude be the answer if the price is not too high to pay?

My Truth

To be humble, to be grateful, to be caring, to be kind,

Are four small words, but huge qualities to find.

Politicians give us promises. They tell us what they want us to hear.

They manipulate our trust. They orchestrate fear.

Politics create the dead. Politics doesn’t care if others die.

Power is the politician’s God. My truth is the politicians lie.
