Hayley Louise Macfarlane hails from the very tiny hamlet of Balmaha on the shores of Loch Lomond in Scotland. After graduating with a PhD in molecular genetics she did a complete 180 and moved into writing fiction. I suffered from massive burn out - plus AI is making indie publishing very difficult because fewer people are buying books from Amazona because they don't want to sift through all the AI books that are filling the rankings, resulting in smaller royalties - so I had to take a step back for a while to focus on my mental & physical health, and take a salaried job as my primary source of income. I know having to wait an indeterminate amount of time for Dark Spear is disappointing, but I swear it's still coming out eventually! Thank you for your patience until then <3(less)

I loved this until I got to the end, which happebed too quickly and with too much unresolved. I can infer a lot - it's shite when books spoon-feed you everything - but there's a difference between inference and an underdeveloped plot (and characters) ...more

This was everything I wanted it to be: Gothic, tense, dark, melodramatic, romantic, and written in beautifully rhythmic prose reminiscent of the fairy tales I read as a child. Highly recommend.
