MFA in Comics @ CCA - Class of 2023!

I’m starting an MFA in Comics Program at California College of the Arts this Summer 2020! This is my first hw assignment, what you should know about me. So, I drew my bike :) I want to thank everyone who I have met because of art and everyone who has shared their time, work, and perspectives. Art is one of my favorite ways to learn and connect with other people. It is also something I must do because without it I am a much sadder and emptier version of myself. Thank you to everyone who has supported me, I strive to do the same for you!

Deep Affection: Mutimedia Anti Valentines Day Art Show @ Artspace Hiawatha Lofts 2/15

I have three works in this awesome show! So pumped to be showing in a multimedia group show :)

https://www.facebook.com/events/61408...

Hiawatha Art Club hosts Deep Affection: Multimedia Anti Valentine's Day Art Show. This show celebrates love that defies the patriarchy. We aim to showcase work about moving through the world outside of societal romantic norms and structures. Let’s redefine love’s rigid romantic connotations. Being self-partnered, radical self love, platonic love, familial love, love created by community, queer love, loss of love, yearning to obtain love. The emotions, complications, relationships, transformations and freedoms experienced with these themes are woven throughout the work of this show.

Hiawatha Art Club members open up their lofts to host a by donation bar where all proceeds go to creating future art happenings, as well as Sit Down Be Quiet & Just Be: an intimate music venue carefully curated to stir the soul. Join us for art, music, drinks, and a great party that lasts all night.

Get a tintype portrait to document your love with Sun Room Analog (book now https://lucas-mobley-photography.square.site/ ). Sarah Maloney & Valerie Niemeyer are organizing their first Zine & Arts Festival hosted by The Greenwood Art Collective during the January Art Walk!

We are fundraising for Real Rent Duwamish. We chose to fundraise for RRD because we live and make art on unceded Duwamish land. Although this is a one time event, you can also make monthly payments to the Duwamish Tribe.

Artists may choose to donate a percentage of their sales to Real Rent Duwamish. We will have collection jars and you can always donate directly yourself.

About Real Rent Duwamish:

Real Rent calls on people who live and work in Seattle to make rent payments to the Duwamish Tribe. Though the city named for the Duwamish leader Chief Seattle thrives, the Tribe has yet to be justly compensated for their land, resources, and livelihood. You can do something today to stand in solidarity with First Peoples of this land by paying Real Rent.
All funds go directly to Duwamish Tribal Services (DTS) to support the revival of Duwamish culture and the vitality of the Duwamish Tribe.

https://www.realrentduwamish.org/

About The Duwamish Tribe:

Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center

"In 1983, after more than 100 years of broken United States treaty promises, the Dxʷdəwʔabš established Duwamish Tribal Services as a non-profit 501[C]3 organization to provide social and cultural services to the Duwamish Tribal community.

In the absence of federal recognition, funding, and human services, Duwamish Tribal Services has struggled to provide numerous social, educational, health, and cultural programs during the past 35 years. The Duwamish Tribe currently has around 600 enrolled members*. Many more people have dxʷdəwʔabš ancestry but have chosen to enroll with federally recognized tribes, in order to obtain health and other human services.

For over 30 years, Cecile Hansen has been the elected chair of the Duwamish Tribe*. Cecile Hansen is the great great grandniece of Chief Si’ahl'. Cecile Hansen is also a founder and former president of Duwamish Tribal Services.

Seattle's First People, the dxʷdəwʔabš, welcomes support from all sources, public and private. Contributions to Duwamish Tribal Services, a 501(c)(3) organization registered with the State of Washington and the IRS, are tax-deductible.

To support the Duwamish Tribe and the Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center, contact the Honorable Cecile Hansen at Duwamish Tribal Services, 4705 West Marginal Way SW, Seattle, 98106, or call (206) 431-1582 or email us a info@duwamishtribe.org "

Kassandra Davis was born and raised in Southern California-, on the 21st year of her existence she was summoned by witchcraft of the school acceptance variety to the Pacific Northwest, specifically Seattle, Washington. This cartoonist (why yes, she does moonlight as a model, why do you ask?) attended the Cornish College of the Arts and graduated in 2013, earning a Bachelors in Fine Arts. Actually true enough- like an evil spirit she decided she wanted to haunt the halls of the school until her dying day- in order to make room for incoming students- and to get her the hell outta there, the administration chucked a degree out the window and she soon followed after it. Her lifework’s is to tell unabashed, truthful, and enlightening narratives which make the viewer laugh while also reflecting upon the themes presented. She works primarily in comics, illustrations, and scribbles. Mostly scribbles.
