From Short Story to Something More: The Curious Evolution of A Boy Alone

I didn’t mean to write a novel. Honestly. A Boy Alone began as a short story. A back story for a major character from the first book in my new series coming out in 2026. So this story began as a quiet little piece starting on a child's eighth birthday. I wrote it in a rush of instinct, no outline, no plan, just the pulse of something that felt true, and a vague recognition that this dark beginning had always been lurking in my imagination, just waiting to come out. If you’ve been following...

WIP Progress Report!

With Book III in the Aucourtes series started, I am also beginning to think seriously

about the series launch. It will start in September 2025 with Book One:

"The Earls Daughter", followed a month later with "The 16th Earl" and then one more month later: "Victoria" which is Book III. There might be a 4th book for December

2025. I'm not sure yet.

This is the first time I've done rapid release publication of a series, and I might be

lying in a darkened room suffering from exhaustion by November! Who knows.

Anyway, If you would like to join me in this adventure and receive a free

pre-publication copy in return for an honest review, then follow me here, send me

a message

A Christmas Break

I've been so engrossed with the second book in the new series, that I ran out of time preparing for Christmas and didn't get around to doing cards. So here is one which I'm spreading on social media today, in the hope that I'll catch everyone.

The Impossible

Finding the perfect book title is almost more difficult than writing the book. A title carries so much responsibility. It must tell potential readers this book is for YOU. It must awaken their curiosity, and chime to the specifics of the genre. And if that wasn't enough, it should also have keywords that will trigger traffic to the book listing.

These are all reasons why I am having such a problem finding a title for my latest work.

It is the first book in a new series of historical romances focusing on two aristrocratic families in Britain.

Book one started as The Runaway, but then during the writing the characters took over the plot so that the original title became inappropriate.

I then considered, Banished and also The Outcast. Both appropriate for the restructured story but not sufficiently inspiring for me to settle on either.

Today, I actually created a wordmap from the whole book, in the hope that the perfect title was hidden in the actual text.

Sadly it wasn't and all I've achieved is another one or two items for my to do list for when I start the next round of revisions. So back to the brain-storming for me.
