He gawked at me with delight through his disdain and all the while, his heartbeat barely increased, even within his own fury. To a demon, nothing is worth fearing, or to worry with. But with little man boy, his eyes struck a gruesome fear; a human emotion I had never felt for myself. I only witnessed it to those who I followed through the hundreds of years I roamed Earth. Why I felt dread, I can’t fathom in confidence; but maybe it was my attraction to Sophia. This other polarizing emotion that falls over me when I am near her.

I responded, “William, I do not wish to cause any inconvenience with you. However, your father will attend the supper, he already knows that I am a part of the club. Stewart has offered stable employment should I remain, and with all the lawyers running around here with Carlo, you better hope that he finds sufficient employment as a playwright or he too may end up working for Stewart. What are you going to do? Stand in front of Sophia and fight off every suitor who comes to call?”

Without a thought, or a reaction, he replied, “If I have to.”

I leaned into him to ensure he heard every word I said. “William, you have precisely no idea who you are dealing with or who I am. Tread lightly my friend; I will only offer this kind gesture once. Showing you what I am capable of, I promise will leave an inexorable memory to torment you for many lifetimes to come.”

He stopped scowling at me, and for a moment I saw reluctance in him I had not witnessed before. And then he abruptly changed the subject. “Lahash, why is the dinner here?”

I shrugged. “Not sure, but they asked me to host, and I was happy to do so.”

William jumped back into the carriage, and he poked his head out of the door. “My father will never approve of you, anyway.”

For a moment, I was unsure if I wanted to enter the carriage at all. I pondered if I should just show him who I truly am. But even with the rage pouring over my body and the depraved thoughts of what I craved to do to him, but I couldn’t. “William, why did you want to come here?”

He snorted, “To see what you are really made of. We may not agree, but one thing I know we have in common is an unrelenting passion to get what we want, and that is where the reality will rear its sinister head. At one point you and I will truly define what enemies are.”

I couldn’t resist, and I climbed into my carriage. “So, does that explain her black eye? And while I am on the subject, why don’t you tell me where you were the night, I had to chaperone Sophia and Carlo and I will show you who I am.”

***

The ride back to Stewart’s office was quiet, and the little man boy wouldn’t look at me and I took pleasure in the uncomfortable silence. He could barely stand my eyes upon him and while he didn’t know that I could hear his heart beating and shortened breaths, the faint smell of sweat lingered, and I knew I had him cornered. Asking about his sister certainly did the trick. I suppose my insistence upon learning where he was, inflamed more in him, but I didn’t sense rage from him. No, this was much more obscure. Fear. Good ole’ fashioned fear permeated the carriage from his body like a melting sweltering day after a rain; the wetness in the air won’t leave, smothering as it is. Yes, William reminds me of one of those times.

My pleasure in his fear was stopped as we arrived back at the office and before my fine shoes from Paris could hit the ground, the recognizable voice of mini-Carlo filled my ears. I could hear him speaking to Mona; and it occurred to me I had not seen her out. Could this be what man boy was tending to? The trafficked young girls? Or has Mona been away with them? As much as my demon ears could hear much of what was being said, I felt like she knew someone was listening, as her voice dropped to whisper. So much that mini-Carlo put his hand on her shoulder and leaned in to listen.

I maintained my distance to see how William would react. But he didn’t regard him and went across the street to Cortigiana’s. I had to remember, in human form, I couldn’t just follow him in. So, I walked up to Carlo, and I said, “Carlo, so how have you been? I am surprised to see you here. What brings you into town?”

He stood up straight and gave me a tight smile, and I intuitively knew what this would lead to. My eyes wanted to roll back into my head, but I stopped and concentrated on remaining the gentleman I had tried to be.

“Lahash, I came into town to do some shopping. Sophia wants to see me again. I am so excited that we finally get to have an evening out, without the complications of a third wheel. Oh, I am sure that it relieves you to be free to attend the society supper, of course, at your own house. That is what Stewart told me.”

I held my breath and felt a surprise that I should not have felt. But I couldn’t reason who set up this event. Surely not Sophia. After our wonderful evening together, why would she call on mini-Carlo here to be with her. So, for the uncomfortable moment, I played along.

“Yes, Carlo, this is good news for you and of course, I am hosting the dinner tonight. But I shall see you soon.” I left before he could get a word in, but I looked over my shoulder at Mona, who looked confused. I acknowledged to her with a tilt of my hat and decided that I would find out what little William was up to.

As I strutted through the room, I noted nothing different. But as I continued closer to the secret room, I heard Louis voice speaking to Vincent. But there was no hint of William anywhere.

Before I could walk closer to the door, it opened and Louis smiled and said, “Lahash! I am so glad that you are here. There are some things I am going to have delivered to your house for tonight and needed to make sure someone would be there to receive them.”

Oddly, now instead of dismissing me, he seems happy to see me. “Of course, my workers are there, and they will be happy to take whatever is needed. Is there anything else I can do for you?”

He said, “No, that will be all.”

Vincent studied me with suspicion, but when he noticed I caught him looking at me, he stopped and smiled. “Lahash, I am looking forward to this evening.”

I nodded and stated, “Louis, give my best to your wife and Sophia.”

Then he nearly stumbled on his feet and wielded his hand in the air, and I could see something unusual inside his black coat jacket. “Lahash, yes, about Sophia. Thank you for looking after her the way you have. William told me you were the best chaperone with her and Carlo. I wasn’t sure about Carlo, but after I spent some time visiting with him, I realized I may have been presumptuous. But either way, you provided the perfect distraction for Sophia, and I appreciate your discretion with her. She is so young and naïve about the ways of the world. I just feel so wonderful while I was away you and William tended to my girls.”

I felt my insides cinch into knots, being pulled in thousands of directions. My body wanted to snap in two. What has happened? My demon powers worked to get me in the club, and now they regard me as some babysitter for Sophia. I have held back too much, in some idiotic hope to be received by these people genuinely, but it looks as though it is time to engage them in the ways I know how, and a little compulsion goes a long way. The line must be drawn, and little man boy and mini-Carlo are going to have a fresh look on this situation when I am finished. But what bothers me more is not knowing who set this up. I didn’t want to believe that Sophia would do such a thing after our moment shared at my home.

The Historical Novel about a Demon and facing his own demons.

So as I draw near the end of the book (in the edits) it is hard to say how the book will end, as I have changed it often. But it has been a while since I posted, so I thought a small excerpt would be a nice post and change of pace.
Here is chapter 18 of Lahash and Black Moon Lilith.

Lahash has been duped into being a chaperone for Sophia and the playwright Carlo Goldini. In life, Carlo did exist and I managed to tie in some interesting facts of his life into my book that is based in Italy.

I wanted to know where William was before I went back to the theater. The only place that made sense he would be was back at Cortigiana’s. I wondered if he and Stewart were cooking something else up. Or was he up to no good on his own?

As I arrived, I saw him walking to the back room with Mona and being I was still in the flesh, I couldn’t just stand and watch his sexual expressions, though I wouldn’t want to; besides, it was clearly a waste of five minutes of her life and worse, she could spend it with another.

So, I pulled up a chair at the bar and ordered my favorite drink, Disaronno. Drinking that sweet liquor took my edginess away, that I felt was going to take over the longer I had to spend uncovering little man boy’s mystery.

After some time, I saw him walk out of Mona’s room, but she didn’t follow. I dashed away to hide within the shadows, and I watched him exit and catch a carriage with someone already in it. I couldn’t be certain where it was headed, but I knew I had to get back to the theater.

As I arrived, it was in between scenes from the theater show. Mini Carlo and Sophia were having the time of their lives by the look of it. Laughter was audible even as far away as I was. I felt sick again, and it clouded my mind with the things Gretta said. It made me angry as I looked at Sophia and remembered our conversation. How could she allow her daughter to suffer abuse at the hands of William? She is a witch, so couldn’t she cast some spell to protect her daughter? Or did she still practice at all?

These maddening thoughts continued through my mind until I was close to them. “Carlo, I see that there is an intermission. So how has the show been?”

“Well, I can’t say that I am happy to see you back, Lahash. After all, we were having the best time.” Carlo sneered at me and when Sophia heard his biting comments, her face grimaced.

“Carlo, I am still having a wonderful time.

Carlo’s face flushed and sheepishly he looked away from her and cleared his throat. “I apologize Lahash. You know it is just that I have become so fond of Sophia, I just want every moment with her that William will allow.”

Sophia stared at me as he spoke and as he said the complimentary things about her, it was like she heard nothing he said. He continued on, and for a few moments as she and I locked eyes, that we were in our own world. A place where we both could hear nothing, and we didn’t need words.

“Right, Lahash?” Carlo stared at me with a confused look.

“Oh, I apologize, Carlo. What was it you said?”

“Well, I was just saying how wonderful it has been to spend time with Sophia and said that we should get back in. The break is over.”

After strolling in, I made sure that Sophia sat between us. The lights dimmed and her face glowed. I could hear her heartbeat and even more trying was that I could smell her. I leaned in and whispered, “Are you having a good time?”

A smile emerged from her face, and she leaned into me. “Now I am since you got here.” She winked an eye and went back to enjoying the show.

I didn’t anything else to her for the duration of the play, as I replayed her last words over and over in my mind. Coy she was, here with Carlo, and responding to my sweet little nothings in her ear, all knowing how her brother despised me.

Lahash gets Sophia Alone

Once the evening was to end, Carlo and I escorted Sophia up the stairs and before we could open the door, William was standing right there, and he made sure he opened the door.

“Oh, William, I see you are back home. So how was your evening?” I didn’t wait for an invitation to enter, or for William to tell me to go on home. As I skirted by him, he scoffed and then stared at Carlo.

“Carlo, I trust you had an excellent evening with my sister?”

Carlo lifted her hand and kissed it. “Yes, William, I did and I appreciate you sharing her with me for the evening.”

“Well, don’t get too used to it. I mean, you will leave town soon, right? For your new role, as playwright?”

Well, well, little man boy sure knows how to put a damper on a date. Not that I mind, he is just helping me along.

He said, “Well, yes. But I wanted to visit with you and your father about that.”

“Oh? Well you won’t be able to do that soon. My father is away on business and I don’t know when he will return.” Little man boy tried to close the door as he took Sophia by the arm and pulled her inside.

“William, I can wait. How about I come by later in the week? Or would it be best that we connect again, say, at, Cortigiana’s? Or at the dinner Lahash is hosting.”

Great! And then mini Carlo just unloaded information that I know Sophia didn’t need to hear.

William brought the meaning of curt to a whole new level. “That will be all Carlo, good night.” And just like that, he slammed the door in his face and didn’t give Sophia any time to say goodbye.

Now I remained with the awkwardness and looking at Sophia boring her narrowed eyes into little man boy, was, well, thrilling. I struggled to hide my excited feelings to see William escape this one.

He turned away, heading upstairs, and she shouted, “William, what was Carlo talking about? What is going on at Cortigiana’s?

Trotting footsteps up the wooden stairs halted, and he gripped the rail until his knuckles were white. “It is a meeting for elite members. Father goes to these all the time. What difference does it make that I attend?”

“No, William, why would Carlo attend? He hasn’t been in town that long.”

No more white knuckles as he released his death grip on the rail. “Well, because he is a playwright, it was easy for him to receive an invitation for this meeting. No big deal, really.”

His response seemed to satisfy her, but mildly. She turned to me. “Lahash, will you be going too?”

I cleared my throat. “I have received an invitation, and out of respect, I was going to attend.”

She crossed her arms and looked at the floor. “Are you free soon?”

I grinned and said, “I am free now.”

Before little William could bounce down the stairs she said, “Excellent, let’s go for a drive in your carriage.”

She grabbed my arm and pulled me outside and she jumped in without so much as any help or to acknowledge man child screaming at her to get in the house.

I stopped before I got into the carriage and said, “William, we will go into town, I think there is a bistro sill open, we can have coffee, I will return her soon. I promise, I will take care of her.”

Little man boy didn’t seem to buy what I was selling, but I don’t think it would have mattered, Sophia was determined to get some alone time with me and I was all too happy to give it to her. Besides, I have will and always will.

Her demeanor was light, despite brooding William and maybe it was my hopefulness, but she seemed relieved that her date with little Carlo ended. Her gesture surprised me, but I did my best to remain unwavering.

Looking out of the carriage window, she stared out into the dark and her eyes squinted, but at what, I couldn’t say. Her head whipped around at the sound of the door closing. “Take me to your home,” Sophia said.

“Sophia, I promised William coffee and back home. Now if I were to not honor my word, this may be the last time we can escape, I should say.” I smiled at her while I moved myself to sit next to her.

“I don’t care, I want to see your home. Can’t you make coffee there?”

I felt a heavy feeling suddenly weight me down, and it drove me mad at the thought of puny man boy having this hold over me, and all because Sophia. “Very well, but just for a brief time. I would like your company again, and to do so, we must keep William happy, or at least until your father arrives and I can introduce myself.”

Bright eyes that were upon me dwindled at the sound of her father, and I knew I said something wrong. “I must apologize, have I said something wrong?”

“No, Lahash. My father is always away, and I wished he would come home. I am tired of William. He is driving me mad, and I feel like I am suffocating living in that house. School can’t come soon enough, and I fear I won’t last until I go back.”

“When might that be?”

“In a couple of months. I had to come home early, and I missed some schooling, but mother has been kind enough to have a tutor over. We finished the course work, and I could take a break and return as though I never missed.”

“What brought you back so early, Sophia?”

She swallowed hard, and I could hear her heat beat pick up at hearing the question. She drew a deep breath as the carriage pulled away from the house. “William. It is always William.”

I sat silent for what felt like a millennium and then I asked, “What happened?”

Her head swiveled away and her eyes once again stared out of the window. “I don’t know if I should tell you. But I feel like I hold too many secrets, anyway. William, was believed to have hurt someone. A young woman, she lived several miles outside of town. Anyway, they believed William chopped her up. Chopped her up! Can you believe that?”

And that question certainly provoked an answer from me, that I couldn’t tell her. Sophia seemed just about as delusional about the little man boy as her mother was. I didn’t have it in me to answer her in truth, that not it wouldn’t surprise me at all that he would be accused at such an atrocious crime. But looking at her and knowing the sympathy she felt toward him, I didn’t have it within my demon self to indulge her on how it was I knew what I did, let alone tell her my opinions of that little man child she calls brother.

So despite I had to put aside much of my ego, I had to play naïve to it all and I said, “Sophia, I don’t understand, please explain.”

“Well, it was a woman. He had permission from her father to court her. I remember a chaperone being with them. He swears he took her home with the chaperone there and came home. The next day father received word that William was suspect in her gruesome death. Both my parents were away, and I was at school, so there has been no one to vouch for him. Oh, it was horrible, Lahash.”

A tear left her eye and I could see it run down the side of her face, even in the dim light of the moon. Despite her emotion, she went on.

Did William Commit Murder?

“Her body was cut up into pieces, and she was laying in their field several yards from the house. The chaperone has never been found, so after a while they believed the chaperone must have hurt her, and since he can’t be located, it is a mystery.”

Well well, we have a psycho, brooding serial killer here and I may as well add con artist to that list as well. I was afraid to ask anymore questions, as I could see how upset Sophia was, and she wanted to get away and the last thing she would want to discuss is all the drama from her family.

As she wiped away the tear, I offered her my handkerchief from my jacket. She snickered under her breath. “You must want to get away from me now. I know our family is just a wreck.”

I leaned in, “Actually, no, I don’t want to get a way from you. Not for a moment.”

She gasped and stared into my eyes, and I could see further into her memory. I saw her with William the day that she returned from school, and she kept asking him questions about what happened to the woman in the field. He continued to pace and brush his hands through his hair as she scolded him. Until he quit pacing and frantically turned around to face her. It was then that he raised his hand to strike her, and just as his hand was about to meet her face, the memory went dark, and I would imagine it was the truth, she was in the dark being knocked out and proverbially, in the dark.

After our eyes unlocked from a drawn out moment, I knew I must take her mind away from those dreadful moments of pain. Instead, I wanted to turn this moment into something else, and not allow the opportunity to escape.

As we pulled into the drive at my home, I brushed my hand down the side of her face and without hesitance she leaned in and put her lips on mine. Once our lips met, I was frozen in shock and she, like me, paused and only our lips softly touched for a few moments. Then she put her hands on the side of my face and pressed her mouth into mine, and it was no secret to either of us, she would to be mine.

After several heated moments of kissing in my carriage, she released her hold of my face. The hold that was intense and driven by a need for love, acceptance and a release.

“Forgive me,” she said as she wiped her mouth with my handkerchief, “I have wanted to do that for so long and I know with the way William has been toward you, that you wouldn’t want to ruin it.”

A smile emerged across my face, and I didn’t try to hide it. “Well, I suppose you see more than you let on. What about Carlo?”

With the handkerchief in her lap, she played with it and said, “Well, he is handsome, and he is fun to be around. But…”

I said, “Go on.”

“Well, he is a great distraction.”

She puzzled me with that comment. “A distraction for whom? You seem to have a lot going on, and I am sure that there are many other distractions that would love to court you.”

A snicker erupted from her and one that she tried to muffle under the handkerchief. “I know that there are others that would like to court, and I know father approves of maybe one of them. But Carlo is different. He is fun, interesting and witty. By the way he isn’t just a distraction for me, it is also for William.”

I felt like a third wheel. Even though being a babysitter for the two of them was bad enough, it is as though it really is I am just the third wheel.

“Lahash, why do you look disappointed,” she said. I suppose she could read me like a book, unlike me, she and her family I could not figure out as easily and I didn’t like that feeling. That resentful feeling, as though they left me out of something extraordinary. Then, as I fumbled for the right words, she said, “You and I need Carlo as the distraction for William. As long as William concentrates on Carlo as the threat that William believes him to be, then he won’t focus on you.”

My Sophia is quite cunning, and I felt the smile return to my solemn face. “You are very observant, and you understand your brother beyond what most others recognize. So this entire time, you are just using Carlo?”

Her cheeks blushed. “Well, what else would you have me do? Have my brother hating you and making it hard for me to get away?”

“Sophia, what made your brother trust me, to take care of you while you were with Carlo?”

“That Lahash, I am trying to figure out myself, but I imagine, there is something about you in the way you handle him, that makes him at ease. He doesn’t believe that you would do any wrong to him. That is a miracle, he hates everyone it seems.”

I helped her out of the carriage, and I said, “Let’s not ruin things, with your brother. For now, let’s keep this to ourselves.”

She took me by the hand and smiled with a nod. “Of course, I will. Now show me your home.”

Her eyes widened as she took in the scenery of my abode for the time being. Quite a large estate, that my workers cleaned up fast, and Sophia was impressed.

Gasping, she said, “Lahash, the certainly is a hidden jewel. I can’t believe in all my time in Milan, I have never seen this place. It is like a castle.”

“Sophia, it has been here for a couple hundred years in my family. When I am away, I keep it locked up. You must have overlooked the gate when we entered. You were distracted.”

“Yes, I was,” she said, and took my hand.

As we entered through the large double wooden doors, she was pleased with what was inside. Smiling, she ran her fingers down the wall as she entered the dining room through the arched doorway.

“Lahash, these mosaics are beautiful, and I see you love art. Wherever did you find these pieces?”

“Well, let’s just say I have connections. I love art and to have it on display makes me happy. Italian architecture during the renaissance period I have to say was my favorite to date. So, why was it you wanted me to bring you here?”

Pre - Order Lahash & Black Moon Lilith

Well I hope everyone has had a great new year start! I have been busy, hence the lack of being able to post. But the good news is, the book set to publish this summer is finished and going through rewrites.

As I go through and edit, I am diving into a little more about Sophia. She is somewhat of the central character in the book, aside from Lahash. He is now my favorite character of any I have written. But I think Sophia makes a good character too and it may be her (in a different form) that a story has emerged I will soon write.

Instead of writing about a distant time, I do know that I will write in the present, first person and more than likely it will be Lahash's point of view or Sophia's. Readers will get a hint of what the next book will be at the end of Lahash and Black Moon Lilith. I am excited about the next one, as I have already started outlining the next story and plot.

Also at the end of Black Moon Lilith, readers will get his reference to Meridian Chronicles and the beginning of that story about of the witches in Salem. Continue to read and excerpt, get a link for a free sample and a link for a free ebook from Meridian Chronicles Series.

Which I have been asked if I will write more on the Meridian Chronicles Series. I suppose I did and it started with Nevoc & The Necromancer. But I suppose that question meant will I add more?

I have not decided in whole. However I have had a few ideas come to mind to continue Meridian and Aiden's story, but I will more than likely call it a different series all together.

So with that said, here is a little from Lahash in the book out this summer!

Here is a preview excerpt of Chapter 25 Lahash & Black Moon Lilith

A dark feeling crept over me and every time I looked at Carlo, who stared out of the carriage window to avoid unpleasant discussion, the feeling darkened. I felt a wash of cold despair course through these veins within the flesh that clothed my correct form. One that I believe, if were to emerge, would certainly scare the good ole’ boys into less dubious behavior. Maybe they would turn to their faith, or in short, stop running around behind their wives’ backs with most elicit debauchery.

And as dark as the wash of feeling raced over me, the sky, though dark to the human eye, I could see beyond the night sky, beyond, into the reaches of space. With this luxury came another price of seeing what stood over this planet. Like a plague that these humans didn’t have a sense of. A warped cloth of evil so great that even I as a demon shutter to imagine what will become of this evening’s events.

I questioned the many things that Lilith would bring with her own wrath and desire to inflict as much pain and sorrow onto these unsuspecting men. Then I recalled the night in the secret room where Vincent spoke to the unknown man to assist the women onto the pentagram, the book. The secret book that rested within the secret room where Lilith would come.

If the rumors were true, that Lilith comes to Earth to murder and slain men, women and children, then why would it not be written in the book? Certainly, would serve as a warning to these idiots, but what ever is in that book, harkens back. They long for something that have never seen, but much feel a part of. But why? Are there lives so mundane that they would seek such evil? Do they believe making a deal with the devil’s mistress will somehow give them this power? What power? Over who?

I had spent so much time wooing Sophia and wasting time with man boy that I never took the time to understand this. Then the carriage stopped and as I stepped out of the carriage, I looked over to my mare, who still snorted at me when I came near and then I had to look at the sign above Cortigiana’s and remember the first day that I came here, following William.

As I went in, the place certainly had a distinct feeling. Before we could enter with the elite in the house, minus the usual clientele, this night was invitation only. I recalled when I asked man child if it were a masquerade and he didn’t answer.

The Masquerade of Darkness

By the time I discovered I was supposed to wear a mask, I felt the subtle nudge on my elbow. Carlo whispered to me that the servers were giving masks at the door. Apparently, there was no need to bring one. Everyone was expected to wear a mask over not just our eyes, but the entirety of our faces. We were also given black robes with hoods to be in total mystery and seclusion.

Once we presented our invitations, there were also robed women, dressed similar to the gentlemen. But they wore purple. They wrapped our heads with our masks and they did so with subtle eroticism as they allowed their hands to fall down our backs with whispers. They said, “Gentiluomo, goditi la serata.” Gentlemen enjoy the evening.

I couldn’t help but smile under my mask, one voice seemed familiar to me. By the way of her height, it was not Mona, but it was hypnotic. And then I realized, she sounded like the vixen I met in Venice the night of the masquerade. It was her, but why would she be here? I knew it wasn’t a far reach to know she was as promiscuous as she was beautiful, but I would not imagine someone of her stature would be here. Things didn’t add to me at all.

I moved through the room and as I thought of hypnotic ideas; I recalled the night that man child tried to poison me. And as we walked into Cortigiana’s, seeing the other women in disguise made me think more of what may be in those drinks. So I took one from one server and held it up to the light, and it was then that the hypnotic voice returned.

“Beautiful glasses, aren’t they?” she said.

I brought my arm down and faced the stranger and I said, “Yes, and I wondered what else they would put in such a glass. Do you?”

“What do you mean?” she said, “the finest liquor is in those glasses. You should try it.”

“I bet I have had better.” I took in the aroma of the dark brown liquor and it wasn’t anything more than a scotch. “Have we met?”

She took a moment to reply, “Yes, in Venice. I would remember that voice anywhere.

“Likewise,” I replied.

She leaned in towards me and said, “I work for Vincent. He calls on my services for big events and I hoped I would see you here.”

“Me? Why?”

“Because I remember what you said, that you were a demon. And you have a raincheck to make up for.”

She was really coming onto me and I couldn’t believe that I found myself hesitant especially on a night such as this, but something hinted to me from deep within my darkened soul, that she too must have a pension for the dark to be here in employment for Vincent. So, I asked her, “What is your role tonight? Are you one of the escorts?”

Snickering she replied, “Not exactly, I am, let’s say in the service for Louis, Vincent and others. Her hand waved around as she referenced the high rollers of the evening. “I am paid very well to entertain and to keep secrets.”

There was that word. Secrets. “Let’s go somewhere quieter, shall we?”

My eyes scanned the room and as I thought, there were plenty of men to make it appear it was full, but not near the many that came regularly. And why would there be on such a night of only the elites? It didn’t matter; I was looking for little William and his father and I wanted to avoid Vincent and make it to the secret room to read from this book. A book I believe that only Vincent himself knew of.

Carlo was already distracted with one of the robed women. Not seeing his face didn’t matter, I could read his body language from afar. She whispered into his ear and he was happy to lean down to her petite stature to hear her provocative whispers, and then he wrapped his arm around her so he could whisper back to her.

Knowing how easy it was to have him distracted, I followed my new vixen friend to see what else I could learn. She led me to the very back of Cortigiana’s and out the back door. Keeping her hood on, she kept her profile low and motioned with her hand to follow, and as I did; I heard someone shouting my name.

“Lahash!” the woman’s voice was distant and strained.

I scanned the landscape and now with the vastly approaching time of Lilith; it appeared crimson. I looked up into the sky and saw the moon which was now red, and I knew within the hours, it would disappear into the sky as the thief in the night herself would soon steal the moon from our site turning it black upon her arrival.

Again, I heard the same voice shout for me and from the darkness a shadowed robed figure emerged and as my demon eyes could see better than a human; I saw now there were several of the same figures moving toward me and the vixen.

“Who are you? What do you want?” I replied.

“Lahash, it is me, Gretta.”

“Gretta? What are you doing here?”

“Lahash, I promised that I would find a way to make you human, for my Sophia.”

“What? I don’t understand. She is missing, and you should be with William. What have you done?”

Continuing to move forward, Gretta emerged before me. “I let him go. He can’t stay tied up forever. He is out searching for Sophia.”

“Gretta, you understand he is probably the one behind all of this, and if we don’t get to him, we will never find her.”

The glare she gave me was apparent even in the dark. “Why are you not looking for her?”

“Gretta, you are ruining things. Who ever said that I was not looking for her?”

As I looked over my shoulder to my new friend, I didn’t see her. She vanished and without a goodbye or a sound like that, she was gone. Leaving me once again with that cold and dark feeling the night I met her at the masquerade.

Gretta said, “What are you talking about? What woman?”

I looked again to see if maybe she moved out of site or returned to Cortigiana's. And just as Gretta said, there was nobody there. “Never mind Gretta, I am looking for her and seeking any clues to find her. Why are you here? Is Louis inside?”

Latest Paranormal Romance & Free Ebook

Latest E-book & Paperback

So if you want to know what this book is about in a nutshell here in this blog post — take The Craft meets Constantine, cross it with elements of The Mummy meets Romeo & Juliet, and top it off with a twisted version of Pandora's Box, and you will have a nutshell version of ,,The Demon Chronicles: Nevoc & The Necromancer. Yes, I said the Mummy. Egyptian curse, bringing someone back from the afterlife and those who love can only do so in death.

November 13th - Nevoc & The Necromancer

The book released last month! It is prime reading time! Curl up with a new ebook from your Amazon kindle, iPad or nook and relish in some paranormal fantasy, with some darkness to it. Shorter days, more staying at home, and there is only so much television you can stand, right? But first, how about a free ebook?

Free Ebooks

I feel the frustration, and that is when I do the most of my own writing and blogging. Typically, when I find myself at the end of the year, that is when I like to do giveaways except for when a new book comes out. So if you are reading this and have never read one of my books or ebooks, now you can and you can download it for free to add to your library in your ebook readers now through Christmas. So get your bookmarks, tablets, iPhone or smartphones out and get ready for some fresh entertainment.

Fairy Nymphs & The Demon Court

Right now the ,,ebook is free at select retailers.

What is the Latest Book About?

Glad you asked. This is my fifth book that is published. I am on my last few words of my sixth book that comes out next year. It is a parallel love story. One where a witch haunted by her past struggles in romance and a fairy who falls in love with a demon cursed to the underworld until the witch finds the box — Pandora's box, that is. As Pandora returns with vengeance, she is also looking for her lost love, Naberious, who has exiled himself back to Egypt, the place where they met a long time ago.

Paranormal Romance & Witches

Sound fun? Think of the old version of the craft. Remember the dark-headed witch character, who was the leader of her small group of four? Her character's name in the movie was Nancy Downs, and her actual name is Fairuza Balk.

If you want to understand the main character more, watch that movie and you will get an idea of who "Raina" is in my book. Similar characteristics and troubled life at home, but I have to say that my character has suffered more than Nancy did in the Craft.

So take The Craft and cross it with elements of The Mummy meets Romeo & Juliet. Yes, I said the Mummy. Egyptian curse, bringing someone back from the afterlife and those who love can only do so in death. Top it off with a twist on Pandora's Box, and you have The Demon Chronicles: Nevoc & The Necromancer.

Modern Day Love & Old Curses

So who cursed who? Selena the fairy queen wants to make an example out of her own daughter, Pandora, and exiles her through the box into the underworld and convinces Naberious, the high court demon that she has left with another.

When Raina discovers the box in a closet where her coven lives, she takes on the dark side and summons the fairy. Seeing that Pandora needs help, she is all too willing to give Raina what she wants as long as she helps her find Naberious.

But there is a catch...

The Two Opportunistic Demons : Lahash & Astaroth

Have you ever been in a difficult situation and you felt that there were those around who would like to capitalize on your bad day?

Well, Lahash and Astaroth are two demons with a past who linger around the humans and use Raina. Why would they need to use her? Well, both demons would like their ranks to grow in court, and if they were somehow to get Naberious to return and bring the coveted fairy book, he stole would please the dark one.

I can't tell you the rest or I would give away the story, but keep in mind through the story of two individuals trying to see their way to getting what they want, and that is love or to be reunited with a lost love, there are two demons capitalizing on their misfortunes.

Excerpt from the E-book & Paperback

Here in this excerpt is where Lahash confronts Naberious about Pandora ...

Lahash walked down the long and dark stone hallway of the dark realm where the only audible noise was his fashionable Paris made boots. With light clicks from his boots as the only audible sound, he took his time going to the prison to see the one and only, Naberious.

As he arrived, the demons of the prison continued their work, not paying any mind to him. They too were busy tending to the souls captured and tortured. Faint sounds of whimpers and screams echoed through the large cave-like room, with a deep crimson red atmosphere, and smothered by steam and smolder.

He arrived at the prison, where Naberious remained behind an adjacent glass wall, hardly visible to the naked eye. “Naberious, so what have you done to warrant such a station? You, the keeper of wicked souls, and Moloch's keeper. You of all demons who reigns nearly as the evil lord himself. How did you arrive?” Lahash asked with a slithery smile, begging for more than just an explanation.

Naberious remained on the furthest side of the cell, his head hung low, and he didn't offer to lift it to even regard the provoking demon. “I figured you knew why I am here.” He answered with an indistinct voice.

Lahash moved closer to the invisible wall and tightened his black eyes, and he placed the tip of his index finger on the window, lighting it up, bright red and burning his finger. He left it perched on the glass for just a few moments while his black eyes remained on Naberious. “I haven't a clue why you are here, however, whatever you have done to evoke the fairy queen to send one of her books with spells from the Egyptian book of the dead, you did something very naughty.”

Naberious raised his head. “The fairy queen?”

“Yes, whatever you did upset her, and rumor has it to do with one of her daughters.”

Naberious dropped his head down once again and mumbled, “We are in love.”

Lahash pulled his head back with a pause. “Are in love? More like were.”

Naberious jumped up and darted straight for Lahash. His eyes glowed, and his face angered. “Were? What do you speak of?”

Lahash remained close to the prison wall and locked eyes with Naberious. “Oh, I guess you didn't know. Your lover, well, she has been banished. However, she suffered greater wrath than you have; well, as of now. Who knows what the dark one will do with you? For the longest time, we had an understanding with the fairies. The dark, lost souls Moloch collected, and those marked for good passing, the fairies delivered them to either us or the spirit guides. This isn't something the fairies have to do; it is or was something they did as a neutral party in the Universe. Now with having your naughty shenanigans with the queen's daughter, wasn't a clever idea.”

Naberious stood still, his face incredulous and his breathing heavy with rage. With reddened eyes and heated skin, he shouted, “Where is she!”

Lahash, being his quarrelsome and natural contrarian self, said, “Her mother cast her to dust with her soul banished to the underworld.”

“What? That isn't right? The underworld? No human or being has spoken of that place in ages. At the time of the Egyptians...” Naberious lowered his voice as he sunk in thought of his long-ago memories.

“Naberious, those who have evolved into another life that comes as a fairy can be cast to the underworld. Otherwise, they live for thousands of years. Where did you think Selena cast out her kind?”

Naberious shook his head. “I didn't know. That wasn't something she and I ever discussed. Even the dark lord never discussed it.” Naberious brought his head up and narrowed his eyes. “You lie!”

“Why would I lie to you about something like that? You should thank me for telling you; no one else had any plans to do so. She is gone, so it should make your banishment easier. You do not have to worry about her.”

Naberious dropped his head, and his eyes turned red. Having been some time since he had shown his wicked side was a sight for Lahash. The high demon sat in his private cell awaiting an unknown fate.

“Banishment? I am a member of the higher courts. No member has ever suffered a banishment or even disposal.”

Lahash closed his eyes for a moment, and he squinted them tight as he relinquished his need to be sarcastic and said, “I have not a clue what will come to you. But now that the queen is up in arms, I guess the fairies will no longer be neutral parties.”

Naberious said, “Our Lord doesn't care who we are with, and he will not banish me.”

Lahash snorted, “Well, no demon I have ever heard of consorted with a fairy in this way. Well, I take that back. There has been one instance.” Lahash brushed his fingers across his mouth and his eyes widened. In a melodramatic tone, he said, “Could the queen be upset because she too has had a brief fling with a demon or two? Oh, now this would make for a grand soap opera. What do you think?” Lahash sneered.

“Lahash, what do you know of the queen laying with demons?” Naberious's voice was hasty.

“Well, only rumors. Maybe you should ask the dark one.” Lahash said and then disappeared.

More to Come

I am finished with the last book! (or I have the final scene and now it is being written.) This book took longer because life and work happen! But it will come out in August. I can’t wait. I have enjoyed writing this book so much.

Happy Holidays!

Nevoc & The Necromancer is told in the third person as all of my books are, except the new one I have coming out next year. During the story, the characters are witnessed by invisible characters such as demons and fairies. This book is unlike my p...
