Greed is Good!
Did I say, Greed is good?
That’s right. Greed can steer the goodness of a blissful saint, or the badness of a vengeful dictator. Let’s analyze my standpoint.
Greed is bad, when you base it on an external scorecard. Well, wait, scorecard? Many of us evaluate our performance or lifestyle based on what others do in society. It is the norm since the stone-age and in today’s personal lives, since kindergarten and their judgmental grades! As you grow up, your external scorecard is a combination of many comparisons, like your friend's bank balance, neighbor's spatial house or a classmate's fancy car. Luckily, most of us are kind at heart, while the external scorecard spurs the mind. Hence, it needn’t turn into a race, thus avoiding the push to extreme limits to acquire that wealth to satisfy the mind. We limit ourselves from causing troubles to the people around us to feed our greed. However, if your mind enters the race fueled by greed from an external scorecard, you will begin to do things that will have many negative implications. So, greed can be bad.
Greed is good when you are looking at only outperforming yourself every time. In other words, your internal scorecard. The scorecard that drives you to perform better than what you did yesterday. As long as the performance metrics are driven by values of ethical nature, you will end up finding a better ‘you’ everyday, leading to sustainable self-growth and peace. So, to reiterate, greed can be good!
Now, go and chase your dreams fueled by an internal scorecard and remember, greed is good!

How is Greed presented in my book?
‘Greed, for the lack of a better word, is good’ said Gordon Gekko in one of my favorite movies, Wall Street. It left a lasting impression in me. Everyone has greed; some profound, some harmless, some under control, some spiraling like a spinning top waiting for a withering fall in time; and it thus became the premise of my first novel.
Let’s admit it, everyone dreams for more. Even in a satisfactory life, we still have room for more happiness, more achievements, more wealth or even, more power. All the characters in my book are simple everyday people from different walks of life, wanting something more.
The silken thread defines a robe, and these following characters define the tale that is ‘Murderous Greed’:
The ‘jealous’ greed: A person, born in a low-income family, fueled by jealousy since childhood, of people with better lifestyles.
The ‘obvious’ greed: Another important character is an executive who is never happy with what he/she has earned. ‘I’m always one rupee short’, his/her mind constantly believes.
The ‘illegal’ greed: This character will move a paper clip to a mountain, only if his/her greed is satisfied. Effort is no longer a function of his/her salary, but a way to be paid extra to do his/her duties. In other words, a BRIBE!
The ‘vengeful’ greed: This character’s greed is purely driven by revenge, to ascertain that they can scale higher peaks in shorter time than their friends and foes.
The ‘good’ greed: This character’s greed will push him/her beyond ethical borders to perform a duty, which incidentally happens to be a good cause for the society.
There’s always room in the wallet for an extra buck and my book ‘Murderous Greed’ is a motley mix of all these characters chasing the urge to fill that space with an extra piece of currency!

The theme of my first book is Greed. I had written a good number of short stories in the past which I did not publish. Here is the blurb of my first book, Murderous Greed.
Early one morning in the township of Avadi, a woman who was on her way to attend a relative’s wedding falls victim to a chain-snatcher and loses her life in the process. The very same morning, Karthik, an up and coming young businessman is found shot dead in his car in the middle of the road — the only witness to the incident being his employee Drishti who was in the car with him at the time. The responsibility of getting behind the root of both incidents falls on Inspector Satyajit, an intrepid and honest police officer, and his team who get cracking on both cases immediately. But as the investigation proceeds further, the incidents and the stories of those involved get increasingly confused and murkier.
What illegal deals was Karthik involved in? Did these deals cause his untimely death? How is all this connected to the housewife who was killed the same morning? What is the part played by the mysterious Gun Club in all these events? Follow Satyajit as he attempts to uncover these dubious questions.
