Or I would try to write something that I didn't even like reading. What worked for me was to hire a writing coach to help me get kickstarted. It worked better than I imagined it ever would. I chose someone who writes short stories, and I thought I could write my memoir as a series of short stories. I would describe a memory, and she would try to fill in the details of the scene, the emotions, the gist of it. And naturally, she couldn't possibly fill those details in, so I would be madly rewriting her words, until my words came out full, strong, detailed and accurate to the memory... it was a very intense experience, and a great way to get the draft written. After rewriting the draft multiple times, and then re-editing it all over again multiple times, the stories I talk about in my memoir have been digested and processed in new ways. I feel like I learned a lot of little things from this deep examination, put a few two and two's together.
In promoting this book, I have had opportunity to reach out to so many people in my various walks of life. It has been so great to re-connect, but now that they will read this memoir, I will be able to connect in a much deeper way. I am naturally introverted, in the sense that I would rather talk about you than me... so this is my chance to tell the world who I am behind all that...(less)
