Meet Mattie Moore!
Hello Goodreads superfriends!
Super Best Friend #1 - my 48 page Superhero Adventure comic is LIVE ON KICKSTARTER!
https://www.superbestfriendcomic.com
I've been learning a ton of stuff lately while preparing for it, so I thought I would share with you something important that I've learned about my relationship with superheroes.
Back in 2016, I created a story called Terrific with Ashley V. Robinson and Nick Robles. It starred a superhero I had created back in college named Captain Terrific. In the story, Terrific yearns to escape his comic book world. He knows he's a fictional character, and he wants to be free in our "real" world. One could read that story and feel my subconscious shouting to the reader. Worried that my entire life was being eaten alive by superheroes and fandom because that was my full time job in 2016.
Move forward to 2017 and the Terrific team reunites to tell another story starring Captain Terrific. We called this one "Thief." It's more hopeful than his previous story, but one can still see my worries about fandom absconding with my life. Let's move to 2021, where I can promise a happy ending.
This year, I'm finally bringing Captain Terrific to print because last year that I had my biggest “aha moment."
I created a best friend character, Mattie Moore, for my superhero Captain Terrific, and through his fandom and his love of superheroes, I could fall in love all over again with superheroes. Through Super Best Friend, I explored the modern fandom of superheroes: how far is too far, what's appropriate and the genuine reasons for the existence of these mythical heroes in our world. This book has become my love letter to superheroes, the Silver Age, and the fandom of superheroes. It's a genre I thoroughly enjoy and I'm happy Super Best Friend brought me back to the fold.
So that's what I learned recently...
I hope you come join us over the next 30 days because my next Kickstarter: Super Best Friend #1: A Superhero Adventure by Jason Inman is LIVE!
Oh, and when you see the Kickstarter video, you might spot my cat Brego.
... be seeing you.
