Interview With New York’s Hottest Event Planner

Hi Everyone!

Here is an interview I had a little while back with Ella Chambers one of New York’s most sought- after Event Planners.

Good morning Ella thank you so much for taking some time from your hectic schedule to come and sit down with me.

“Of course, we have been friends for a long time now. You know I would do anything for you. Besides I needed a break from the office, the stress has been killing me. We have done wedding after wedding with no break. You even came to visit and we are hardly spending time together.

Aww I know how you feel writing books can definitely take a lot out of you. There could be days that I spend hours holed up writing a chapter because I am so caught up. Anyway, my first question is what made you realize your passion was event planning?

“That is actually an easy one. It was my mom. She has been the event planner for our Country Club, which we own alongside my boyfriend Daniel Collins’s family since before we were born. I grew up watching her plan these lavish events. When I was old enough I helped her out on weekends and during summer breaks. By High school I knew I wanted to be an event planner just like my mom. As soon as I graduated college I worked full time with her that summer at the club and we also opened up our own business in the City that was separated from what she had been doing for years.”

That is so cool. I wanted to be an event planner from senior year of high school all throughout college. After college I had a full time job as an event assistant and I realized it wasn’t for me. I figured out writing was my calling. What did you study in College to get you where you are today?

“I studied Communications and took some hospitality business classes on the side as electives. I wasn’t working in a hotel and I had so much experience from all the years working with my mom that I wanted to see what it would be like from a communications stand point.”

That is what I did too. It was a great choice. I learned a lot. What was your first big event post college?

“That was so long ago I have to think. My first huge event was probably the club’s Memorial Day party. We have three big events all summer for the club’s members. We have a Memorial Day Event, Fourth of July Day Event and Labor Day Event. I think I helped with a wedding or two, but my biggest was the Memorial Day. We had two parts to it. We had family day in the afternoon, which was like a big carnival and then we had a fancier event for adults in the evening.”

I might have to move here and become a member it sounds fun. What do you think is the toughest part of the job and how do you deal with it?

“Anytime you want to come to an event you just have to fly here and you will be our guest. That is a tough question, but I would say the toughest part is balancing work and home life. There are times throughout the year that we get so busy that I basically live in the office apart from going home to go to bed and to wake up to come right back. It can be challenging because I am trying to make my clients happy, my boyfriend happy, my staff happy and then myself happy. The funny thing is sometimes the easiest to please are the clients. I just take one day at a time and I am trying to learn the art of delegating. I don’t normally like to give my responsibilities away because I feel that as part owner I should be taking on more work than everyone else. Everyone keeps asking for more work and keeps telling me to stop playing the martyr role so I guess I should listen” (laughs).

I understand where you are coming from. It can be hard to let go, but I think in the end it will make everyone a lot happier. Well this has been a really great interview. One last question, do you think Daniel and the Giants are going to go the Super Bowl this year?

(Laughs). “I had a great time today and I am glad we finally got to catch up. Like I always say anything is possible, but we have to wait until the season starts for further predictions.”

I hope everyone enjoyed this blog post with Ella Chambers from With Love, Ella and I. Anything about the Giants and the Super Bowl is Fiction and it is from my book :)

With Love,

Alexa

Following Your Dreams

Ever since I was I little I always had a big imagination and I always loved to read. I never expected that one day in the future I would publish a novel. Over the years my dreams have changed, but my parents have always told me to follow my dreams and I did just that. When I was younger I wanted to be a fashion designer and sketched clothing designs. I sent them into different clothing stores like Target and Von Maur. They weren't very good, but I thought they were so with my mom's help I followed my dreams.

After I graduated college for a month or so I thought about modeling. I got pictures taken and sent them off to modeling agents. I never heard anything back, but once again I followed my dreams. It is important to continue to follow your dreams because without dreams then we have nothing to reach for.

Now my new dream is to continue to make novels that take others away from their problems even if it is only for a little while.
