How about a cousin who went missing one day never to be seen again. It's been twenty years. A beautiful, talented, young woman in the prime of her life. Vanished.

She was living in a religious cult. On December 21, winter solstice, the cult climbed as high as they could on Mount Baker in Washington State, dropped acid, and watched the sunset over the Cascade Mountains. With temperatures at 5 degrees, and stoned out of her mind, she was riding down the Skagit River on a skiff to the boat she was living on when the engine failed. She was left onshore by friends to go get help. Very distinctive footprints from her boots in the frozen snow were found the next day. where she was dropped off by the boat. The footprints led to a steep hill. Apparently hot from walking in the deep snow, she took her coat off to climb a steep hill, hand over foot, leaving a clear trail. She made it up the hill and her bootprints led to her car a mile away but she must have discovered at that point she didn't have the keys to her car because they were still in the pocket of her coat that was lying in the snow down by the river. Her bootprints went to a road where they were seen walking in circles. She was obviously cold without her coat and trying to get a ride. And, she was never seen again, most likely picked up by someone. Did she come to harm? Or, did she choose that time to begin a new anonymous life off a different grid?

The police conducted a three day search with dogs and rescue teams and never found her.
