GRETCHEN ANTHONY is a speaker, humorist, and author of Tired Ladies Take a Stand, a book that the Minneapolis Star Tribune predicted “will almost certainly be snapped up by books clubs everywhere.” Her previous titles include The Book Haters’ Book Club, and Evergreen Tidings from the Baumgartners. Her novel The Kids Are Gonna Ask received the 2021 Alex Award from the American Library. She lives in Minneapolis with her family, where she stays on the hunt for a good story while listening to 70’s classic rock and scouting a great Manhattan.

She also hosts The Middle Book Club, a virtual book club dedicated to reading novels that feature midlife heroines.

Hi Eve,
Thanks for reaching out! And thanks for reading.

To answer your question, Evergreen Tidings wasn't so much retitled as released with an additional title and cover. Confusing, right?

Here's how it works when this happens (I'm learning along with you): Evergreen Tidings will remain available in print with the same title. The ebook, however, has been re-released under the title, Behaving Like Adults. Search engines will point readers to both, regardless of the title they search under.

So now, here's why the publisher did it: While my publisher and I both love the Evergreen Tidings title, it makes the book sound like more of a Christmas story than it really is, and if you're looking for something to read in June, for example... Ideally, the new title and cover will attract a new audience who may not have otherwise picked it up.

Clear as mud? :-)

September and its Great Possibility

Tuesday was back-to-school day here. My husband stood at our office window and watched elementary school kids beneath oversized backpacks climb the stairs to their bus like beetles taking a hill. I went shopping for new notebooks and pens.

Understand, our household doesn’t require new school supplies anymore. Especially not me. And I certainly didn’t need to drive across town to buy them. But shop
