Lynn H. Blackburn's Blog

August 7, 2025

So…there’s a giveaway…

Hey y’all!

I’m in the mountains at the lake. It’s been a good week, but also a weird week. It’s rained. It’s been cold (for August), and I’ve felt the pull of trying to squeeze in some relaxation while simultaneously managing the beginning of the school year and book revisions. As someone who struggles to relax under the best of circumstances, it’s been a challenge.

Then, MailerLite (my newsletter/blog subscription service) decided to randomly send out messages yesterday when there was no new blog post! Do we know why? No. No we do not. Does MailerLite know why? Maybe? But their answer was, “It was a glitch. We fixed it.”

This is where having an imagination can be a dangerous thing. Because now, I want to know what happened. And I’m not buying the whole “glitch” answer. I have a few different ideas, all of which are based on my (potentially erroneous) idea that the people who work there are all computer nerds.

Someone spilled their coffee and, in the chaos, accidentally changed some code, and no one knew it until all these blank posts went out.Something locked up, and they just unplugged everything and plugged it back in (because that usually fixes it, right?), and they reset something that wasn’t supposed to be reset. It was bring the kids to work day, and someone’s little computer genius in training didn’t want to be there. She wanted to be at home reading a book. So to vent her frustration, she messed with the code.Someone is made that they didn’t get employee of the month, and this was their payback.Gremlins.

None of that is the point of this post, but now you’ve had a glimpse into the weirdness of my brain. 🙂 I hope you haven’t been too traumatized!

Now, on to the point.

I have a newsletter. Many of you subscribe, but there are still a lot of you who don’t.

I don’t usually share my newsletter publicly because it’s for newsletter subscribers. You subscribe, you get the newsletter and all the goodies that go with it.

But I’m making an exception this time. I want everyone to see what they’re getting when they sign up for my newsletters, and I’m hoping more friends will become newsletter subscribers.

And of course I’m sweetening the pot with a giveaway. A big one. You could win a complete set of signed copies of the Dive Team Investigations series or the Defend and Protect series!

You can get entries by signing up for my newsletter, for following me on social media outlets, and for signing up to receive a notice when I update the blog.

I’d love for you to check it out!

Lynn’s July Newsletter

Assuming our friends at MailerLite were telling the truth when they said they’ve fixed the glitch, once you subscribe you’ll only receive an email when there’s a new newsletter or a new blog post.

And if you get random emails, you can be sure it’s not my fault.

We’ll blame it on the gremlins. Or the glitches. Or the little girls who want to go home and read books. Let’s face it, we all get how they feel! 🙂

What’s Saving My Life – Summer Edition

To say these things are saving my life might be a bit dramatic, but… 🙂

Here’s what’s making a big difference in my summer days!

☀ AM SUNSHINE ☀

Y’all. It’s hot in the South. And humid. It’s ridiculous. BUT, when I get morning sunlight in my eyeballs, I have a better day! There’s all kinds of science behind it, but there’s nothing quite like personal experience to make you a believer. And I’m a believer.

☕ SLOW WALKS ☕

In order to get my morning sun, I’ve been taking my dog out and drinking a cup of coffee while I slowly meander around the street in front of my house. This goes against everything in me. I’m a multi-tasking/efficiency queen. The logical option for getting morning sun would be to get a power walk in at the same time. Right? But (have I mentioned how hot it is here?) even early the heat can be overwhelming and that ruins the vibe! But a slow stroll? That’s where it’s at!

🥵 MY TOASTER OVEN 🥵

I have a fancy pants toaster oven that is big enough to hold a 9×13 pan, and let me tell you, this bad boy is making life so much easier this summer. I’m using the fool out of that thing. I’ve even been meal planning around “what can I cook in there to avoid turning my oven on!”

👗 DRESSES (with THIGH SOCIETY SHORTS) and SHORTS 👗

You may be sensing a theme here, but a lot of what’s saving my life right now involves ways to keep myself cooler. And dresses are high on the list. I pair them with my favorite anti-chafing/cooling shorts and I’m good for the day!

And after years of not wearing shorts (I do NOT have the legs for them) this summer, I have decided that I DO NOT CARE. It’s hot, I’m hot, and even my favorite cropped pants are just too much right now. So I’m wearing shorts.

🔋 THREE-WAY CHARGING CABLES 🔋

Three-way charging cableI picked these up for our recent trip to Utah, and now we have them all over the house. It seems like every device we own needs a different cable, and these are making things so much easier!

🏁 MY 16-YEAR-OLD DRIVING 🏁

Y’all…GAME CHANGER. Seriously. He’s driving himself to practice, to workouts, to lessons, and to the store for me. I’m here for it!

😎 What’s keeping you going this summer? 😎

Podcasts & Interviews

One of my favorite aspects of book promotion is participating in podcasts and interviews.

I meet such lovely people and I get to talk about my favorite things – books and writing! It’s a win-win!

Today, I want to highlight a few places you can go to hear more about my writing process and, specifically learn more about Break My Fall!

First up: A Woman’s Heart with Lisa Granger

Summer Reading - A Woman's Heart - Trusting God with Every Twist in Life

I LOVED talking to Lisa. I hope you’ll listen in!

Summer Reading Series with Lynn H. Blackburn, Break My Fall

What if the winding path you’re on isn’t a detour—but divine direction? In this episode of our Summer Reading Series, we’re joined by the incredible Lynn H. Blackburn to talk about how God truly uses everything—every season, every twist in our journey—for His purpose and glory. Lynn opens up about her own path to becoming a writer and how following God’s call isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it. We also dive into her latest romantic suspense novel, Break My Fall, and hear about some of the books she’s enjoying right now.

Next up: The LiteraryScape Podcast

The LiteraryScape Podcast🎙 I had the BEST time chatting with Melissa about my Gossamer Falls series!

She asked all the right questions and had me laughing about everything from Meredith’s… ahem… car situation 😂 to Gray’s Chick-fil-A peace offering. (Yes, I really do believe coffee and chicken biscuits can solve most problems! ☕🐔)

I got a little emotional talking about Aunt Minnie and how my sweet Emma inspired that character. It means the world to me when readers connect with the representation and see how families can wrap around each other with love. 💕

In addition to the episode where Melissa interviewed me, there are three other episodes. One for Never Fall Again, one for Downfall, and one for Break My Fall! I think you’ll really enjoy them!

If you have a podcast or a book club, I’d love to chat with you!!! Send me an email to Lynn@LynnHBlackburn.com and let’s try to make it happen!

Grace and peace,

Last to Fall, Gossamer Falls #3

Say hello to Last to FallThe third and final book in the Gossamer Falls series!

Book cover of the book Last to Fall, Gossamer Falls, Book #3I’ve been working hard on Mo and Bronwyn’s story – and the work will continue through the summer! It’s going to be a wild ride and I’m praying my readers will find Last to Fall to be an exceptionally satisfying conclusion to the series!

Here’s a little bit about the story:

Bronwyn Pierce has poured everything into The Haven, her family’s exclusive mountain resort in Gossamer Falls. But when financial discrepancies surface and the numbers suggest something far darker than simple mismanagement, she’s forced to call on the one person with the skills to help her: Mo Quinn, a former Army Intelligence officer, her first love and the last person she ever wanted to trust again.

Mo has spent years avoiding the woman he once loved and the secrets that tore them apart. But when Bronwyn calls, he can’t walk away—especially when it’s clear someone wants her gone for good. As they dig deeper into the treacherous motives behind the blackmail scheme, their proximity reignites long-buried feelings neither of them is ready to face. And when the evidence points to an unexpected culprit, Mo faces an impossible choice: trust the proof in front of him or trust his heart.

With danger closing in and no one else to turn to, these childhood sweethearts must break years of silence to uncover who’s trying to destroy The Haven. They’ll have to risk everything—including their hearts—to expose the truth before it’s too late.

There will be lots more aboutLast to Fall in the days ahead!

For now, you can go ahead and preorder it from Baker Book House (my fav!), Amazon, or Barnes & Noble.

Last to Fall Preorder Links

And if you’re on Goodreads, would you do me a huge favor and go ahead and add it to your “WANT TO READ” shelf? The more people who shelve it there, the more visibility it will get!

THANK YOU! Y’all are the BEST!

Grace and peace,

Hey y’all! My name is Lynn Blackburn. I write swoon-worthy Southern suspense, eat too much chocolate, drink too much coffee, do way too little CrossFit, and can’t live without books. You can learn more about me and my books here at my site and on Facebook, X, and Instagram.

Right now, I’m writing a series set in the fictional town of Gossamer Falls in Western North Carolina. I’m a Carolina girl and love writing stories set in this world.

My newest release is Break My Fall. Here’s what it’s about:

Dr. Meredith Quinn always planned to return to Gossamer Falls to practice dentistry. Now that she’s back home, she’s made it a point to offer clinics to children and adults in nearby underserved areas. Unfortunately, those same areas are known to harbor drug traffickers, and Police Chief Grayson Ward suspects that local law enforcement is looking the other way.

After too many losses, Grayson has closed off his heart. But when Meredith enters his life, his walls crumble, and he’s left exposed and vulnerable. To keep her alive, he must keep her close, but that makes it impossible for him to retreat and rebuild. Will she be the one who finally helps him emerge from isolation? Or will this force of nature leave him shattered?

Meredith is one of my favorite heroines ever. She’s crazy smart and wildly creative. She even makes flowers from wood!

Flowers made from wood? Yes, please!

Meredith creates beautiful floral arrangements from flowers made from wood. For her, it’s a creative outlet that gives her a way to express a different aspect of her personality. It’s a stress reliever … well, except for when it gets her sideways with some criminal elements…but…you’ll have to read Break My Fall for the details on that!

In real life, I have a friend who designs these arrangements. Her name is Christy Hart, and she’s the owner and creative force behind Bloomphoria. She takes flowers made from thin pieces of balsa wood, dyes them, and then arranges them. She makes arrangements of all sizes. I have one in my office, one on my piano, and my daughter’s prom corsage was also made by Christy. I wish I’d had something like these flowers for my own wedding!

When I was doing the research for Break My Fall, I went to Christy’s house to see her workshop. It’s a riot of color, dye, and arrangements in various stages of completion. Christy creates flowers for many weddings, and it was when she showed me her notebook filled with wedding designs that I got the idea to use Meredith’s florals and a wedding to bring everything to a head in Break My Fall.

As someone with very little sense of color and no skill with floral design, I loved being able to borrow this from my friend to give to Meredith!

The Stop #10 Basics:

If you’re interested, you can order Break My Fall from your favorite local bookstore, Baker Book House, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, ChristianBook, or any of the other online retailers.

Writing Update

April Writing Update:

Well…honestly? 🙂

I’m writing very little at the moment, and I am 100% okay with that!
Every writer is different, and every writer has their own process.

My process, sadly, involves intense bursts of writing followed by a month or two of word fatigue so intense that I can barely even read! The first time this happened to me, I panicked. Reading is like breathing! I read all the time. Fiction, nonfiction, romance, suspense, thrillers, fantasy…I read just about anything! But, when I’m on a deadline, my reading is limited to re-reads of old favorites because that’s all my brain can handle.

Also, because, true story, I have the self-control of a fruit fly, and if I start reading a book and get sucked in? Guess what happens? I read…and I don’t write. Which is all well and good except for when I’M ON A DEADLINE!

You’d think when the deadline is past that I’d be itching to read new things. And I am. But, I don’t. I try! But I can’t get into anything for the first few weeks. I start and stop books. It drives me bonkers! But it passes. It just takes time.

And this word fatigue extends to my writing life as well. In the first month or so after I turn a book in, it’s all I can do to write blog posts and social media posts! I’ve learned to roll with it. It won’t be long before I start getting antsy to dive into a new story…but…I can’t talk about that yet!!

For now, I can tell you that there are more stories coming. They’re simmering in my subconscious while I wait for my editor to get her hands on Mo and Bronwyn and straighten them out!

Y’all should pray for her! She has her work cut out for her with those two!

Grace and peace,

March Social Media Roundup

March Social Media Roundup

Welcome to this month’s collection of highlights from my social media! For those of you who prefer to stay connected through the blog, this roundup ensures you don’t miss anything!

📷 Highlights

Granny Quinn’s prayer journal has been a popular feature this year! Just wait until she shares her prayers for Mo and Bronwyn…:)

I love my #WackyWednesday posts so much. They’re silly and goofy and yet, sometimes, eerily accurate! I mean, really, potatoes are a superfood!

I created a reel that has had more views than just about anything I’ve ever posted! As a mom to teenagers, I get a real kick out of using their slang – they hate it and tell me to “stop” and “never say that again” on a regular basis. LOL! So I asked an AI to generate book reviews of Break My Fall using Gen Z slang, and y’all…it did not disappoint!

https://www.lynnhblackburn.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/I-asked-an-AI-to-describe-Break-My-Fall-using-GenZ-slang.-Yall.mp4

I also shared multiple quotes from Break My Fall! If you haven’t snagged your copy, now’s a great time!!

Did you enjoy this social media roundup? Let me know in the comments what you’d like to see more of!
