Susan Old is a Peace Corps alumnus and retired mental health/addictions therapist. In other words, ideal qualifications for understanding the world of vampires. Rare Blood’s Miranda is each of us struggling to make sense of an insane world while sipping coffee.

Winter 2024: Black Market Blood

I loved writing Black Market Blood from the perspective of the most ancient vampire, the Magus. To my surprise many readers have told me he is their favorite character. Is he a narcissistic, self-serving, seductive egomaniac who sometimes considers others’ needs? Or are his rare acts of kindness meant to accomplish selfish desires? Miranda Ortega, a half-vamp mortal is winning favor among the most
