by Robin Murphy

Illustrated by April Burril

Genre: Children’s Picture Book

Five-year-old Nora is thrilled for a sleepover at her Nana

and Grandpa’s condo—but what she really dreams of is climbing to the top of the

Concord Point Lighthouse. There’s just one problem: she needs to be 42 inches

tall. Determined and hopeful, Nora spends the day imagining she’s grown just

enough. After a fun-filled evening and a good night’s sleep, she finally visits

the lighthouse. Is Nora tall enough? Will the view from the top be everything

she dreamed it would be?
This heartwarming story celebrates the excitement of milestones, the bond

between grandparents and grandchildren, and the thrill of achieving something

new.

I received a copy of Nora & The Lighthouse for an honest review. What follows is my opinion and mine alone.

Nora & The Lighthouse is a cute story about a little five year-old girl’s day and her excitement about going to a lighthouse. Nora is like any other child, filled with anticipation of growing and being able to do something only taller people did. As we follow her day, she and us are reminded to be mindful of our excitement and that we may not always get what we anticipate.

The author, Robin Murphy, perfectly encapsulates the childlike excitement that drives a little one all the while showing the little ways she is distracted and reminded that she might not get what she wants. But Nora is persistent and knows she has grown. She does not get angry or forceful in this fact. Instead, she shrugs off the doubts and continues her day.

This book is a sweet read for a little one who is excited for a new adventure. It is well written and fits with the beautiful illustrations. Like Nora, I love lighthouses. Perhaps I should take a trip to one soon.

Robin Murphy, an Amazon best-selling author, writes across

genres including paranormal mysteries, humorous romance, chick-lit, and

nonfiction. Based in Havre de Grace, Maryland, she also works as a

self-employed virtual executive assistant and freelance writer. Her ability to

blend imaginative fiction with practical, real-world topics showcases both her

versatility and engaging narrative style.

Blog Tour (Review): The Girl of Many Crowns by D. H. Morris

Book Details:

Book Title: The Girl of Many Crowns by D.H. Morris
Category: Adult Fiction (18 +), 305 pages
Genre: Historical Fiction
Publisher: New Classics Publishing
Release date: October 4, 2024
Content Rating: PG due to some mature subject matters, but no graphic violence, language, or sexual content.

“The Girl of Many Crowns offers a riveting glimpse into the tumultuous life of Judith, the first princess of France, against the richly detailed backdrop of medieval Europe. D.H. Morris masterfully blends history and human drama, making Judith’s struggles both personal and profoundly symbolic of the era’s precarious politics.– review by Gina Rae Mitchell

“D H Morris’ talent shines through in this debut. She no doubt did extensive research to bring this story to life. I loved how they were able to portray Judith. The historical details were so vivid, I felt as though I was transported back in time and living in the medieval times.” – review by Amy Campbell, Locks Hooks and Books.

“The book sent me down the rabbit hole of reading more about Baldwin Iron Arm, which itself was a super exciting bonus activity (and yes, a bonus – the author is a descendant of Baldwin Iron Arm and Judith – can you even imagine finding your ancestors back to… years 837 – 879?).” – review by @this.human.reads

Book Description:

The true story of a powerful Knight and a runaway Queen who unite to defy an empire.

The Kingdom of Francia – 856

Thrust into the political intrigue surrounding the throne of Francia, young Princess Judith loyally supports her father, King Charles. She strengthens his kingdom by marrying twice for political alliance.

But, when Judith refuses to marry a third time at her father’s command, King Charles imprisons her in one of his palaces.

Baldwin “Iron Arm” is a trusted knight and companion to Princess Judith’s brother, Prince Louis. Baldwin helps protect Francia and the king’s family from Vikings, rebel Lords, wars, and assassinations plots.

When Judith and Baldwin fall in love without the blessing of the king, will they be able to hold on to their faith and each other after unleashing the fury of an empire?

I received a copy of The Girl of Many Crowns for an honest review. What follows is my opinion and mine alone.

The Girl of Many Crowns is a historical fiction novel that follows the story of Judith, a princess who went through three marriages beginning at the age of twelve. One thing to note that I did not realize until I started reading is that Judith is a real historical person. She did get married off to a king at the age of twelve. It’s a disturbing fact in history that oftentimes is forgotten, that it was commonplace to exploit and marry off children to people twice or even three times their age.

Because of this, a portion of the sales of The Girl of Many Crowns is going to a charity that help children who have been or are being trafficked.

The format I experienced was the audiobook, which is narrated by the author. Because of that, I’m not going to focus on the narration itself. The book is a tad bit slow, but that is easily fixed with your preferred audio app. It’s great read when you have a long day of work to do, roughly thirteen hours worth of listening at its normal speed.

The writing is like other historical fictions that truly transport you to the time period. There are some words you may have trouble with but a quick search or the context clues helps.

All in all, the story is a great view into the historical lives of people I didn’t know existed. It’s both informative and entertaining while putting to light a cause that will benefit the future.

You can find the audiobook here for purchase.

Meet the Author:
A native of San Diego, California, D. H. Morris has lived on four continents and traveled through many countries. She has four children and eleven grandchildren and currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and Choral Music education and pursued graduate work in English at USU and law at the University of Utah. She is also a published playwright.

As a descendant of Judith and Baldwin, the author discovered their intriguing story while doing a genealogical project. This journey inspired her to research everything about the 9th Century – including food, politics, travel, war, education, clothing, jewelry, religion, holidays, marriage customs, and medicine. She loves talking about this remarkable time in history when the European countries we know today were being formed and fighting for their very existence.

Review: Once Upon a Billionaire by MacKenzie Stowe

Get enchanted by these modern-day princesses and their

billionaire romances!

Once Upon a

Billionaire

The Billionaire Fairy Tales Book 4

by MacKenzie Stowe

Genre: Contemporary Billionaire Romance

In the bustling heart of New York City, Kiara

Aurelius, a reserved school teacher, takes on an unusual gig:

house-sitting for Barrett Olson, a suave and enigmatic businessman

she’s never met. Nestled in his upscale penthouse, Kiara delights in the

luxurious surroundings, immersing herself in Barrett’s world while capturing

the city’s vibrant essence from his panoramic windows.

Barrett returns home unexpectedly, catching Kiara off guard.

Rather than being angry, he is intrigued by the beautiful stranger in his home.

The air crackles with undeniable chemistry as they navigate this unexpected

encounter. As night falls, their connection deepens, and passion ignites in

ways neither could have imagined and evolves into an unforgettable weekend.

As the weekend comes to a close, Kiara and Barrett part

ways, uncertain if they’ll ever meet again. They are unexpectedly reunited, but

their burgeoning romance faces obstacles they never anticipated. Kiara’s

protective brother and Barrett’s disapproving employee threaten to tear them

apart. Caught between family loyalty and societal expectations, Kiara and

Barrett must decide if their love is worth fighting for.

In this modern retelling of The Three Little Bears, Once

Upon a Billionaire explores the delicate balance of love and trust in

a world where appearances can be deceiving. Will Kiara and Barrett find a way

to navigate their differences and build a love that’s just right, or will the

forces against them prove too great to overcome? Dive into a story where love

is a gamble and only the strongest hearts prevail.

Anthology. It has been reimagined as a full novel.

Have you ever had a staycation where you do the kitschy tourist thing? How about one where you find love?

Once Upon a Billionaire, loosely inspired by “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”, explores both of those scenarios in a spicy romance between a billionaire and a young woman who was only supposed to house sit for the weekend.

It doesn’t take long for the reader to get into the physical chemistry side of things between the characters. Both are determined, stubborn, and seem to be out of their usual lifestyle when they meet. But that doesn’t stop them from making an agreement that changes their lives forever.

I personally find Goldilocks to be a difficult story to retell, but MacKenzie Stowe does it in a way where it isn’t a solid retelling. This book truly is just an inspiration baby of the story, but still has nods to the origin story that brought a little smile on my face.

The book is well written and a quick palette cleanser read. It can easily become a single sitting read, but doesn’t lack in emotion once their first night together ends. Shoot, the emotion is even there from the get go but it really starts going the next morning. I found reading this book was a great change of pace from other reads and just gave me good feelings by the end.

If you enjoy contemporary retellings to fairy tale classics and need just that quick fix to brighten your time and mood, check out MacKenzie Stowe and Once Upon a Billionaire or any of the other books in the series.

Review: 1001 nights with the Lucan king by Ruby K.

The bloodthirsty King demands a sacrifice: one bride per year, found lifeless in her marital bed by morning’s light. Amidst the undulating waves of golden sand dunes, the kingdom of Elamaria has been haunted by this sinister tradition for the last decade. One young woman, Amara, dares to defy fate.

Stepping into her sister’s role as the king’s chosen bride, she enters a world of treachery and deceit. But as the night unfolds, Amara discovers a chilling truth—there is a danger lurking within the castle walls, more deadly than the Crimson King himself.

With time slipping away and where every sunrise might be her last, Amara must unravel the secrets shrouded in darkness. Will she survive to see another dawn and expose the true face of evil that haunts the realm?

In this captivating tale of love, courage, and betrayal, Amara finds herself falling for the one man she swore to kill—her husband, the murderous king who would sooner see her dead than let her live to see another day. Or…would he?

One of my favorite classics has to be 1001 Arabian Nights. Written as a story in a story, the original text (well, translated into English for me) has it all: intrigue, magic, political unrest, and a strong female lead doing everything she can to not only save her life, but the future lives of other women. Ruby K’s fantasy retelling, 1001 Nights with the Lycan King, has all of that and a lycan!

What is a lycan? In short, a lycan is a werewolf. In many shifter romances, the lycan is a bigger and stronger version of the wolf shifter. Most of the shifter romances I’ve read with a lycan made them just big wolves and not that impressive.

That is not the case with this book. The lycan king is a tortured soul of a man who quickly endears himself to the reader and female lead, Amara. The lycan? Talk about scary!

When I first encountered the lycan, I was hooked. The tension and fear was intense.

Ruby K’s writing is easy to get into. It’s entertaining and pulls you in. The scenes that are filled with action or tension is palpable. And when a heavy subject is being addressed, you can’t help but feel the same was as Amara.

Lately, there haven’t been many books I could just sit and read. Part of that is because of the current environment. Part of it is because I haven’t been able to spend my whole day focusing on books. But, when it happens, when a book’s world just keeps me tethered and hungry, it is one of the best feelings as a reader.

1001 Nights with the Lycan King did that for me. It is hands down the quickest read I’ve had this year. The world is arid, dangerous, and beautifully written. Ruby K has a fan in me. As soon as I finished, I wanted more. Alas, I have to wait.

And so, I write this review with the hope that someone else will be as tortured as me and the Lycan King.

Reasons why the Defending Pointers for Elon Musk’s Nazi Salute don’t work.

The 47th President’s inauguration happened earlier this week, and with it, a Megachurch-style rally filled with prayers and church music. Among the speakers was a man who everyone in the world has been exposed to in one way or another.

Elon Musk.

Elon is the current earworm for the 47th President and the main benefactor of what we see today. In his speech, he “let his heart out” to the people in the only way a good, upstanding American would.

Who am I kidding? The man made the Nazi salute.

You may not have seen it in action, but I did. And it most definitely was a Nazi salute. Go watch it yourself. But, then again, you might need to defend him because no one in their right mind would do that in public.

Here are common arguments defending him and why they do not work. If you think of those same arguments, argue them and see which fits better.

“Elon is socially awkward.”

Sure, he definitely is. I’ve seen some cringe-worthy dances from him, but he is also a billionaire with the resources for a PR team. People like him have people to make sure their life and image are “perfect.” He is a well-spoken individual during interviews. That doesn’t happen naturally for the socially awkward. I’m sorry, guys, but he has had media and social training. And since he’s had training, he knows the Nazi salute is inappropriate.

“Elon is Autistic”

Okay, let’s set aside the fact that a chunk of people who use this argument are also Autism-deniers. The argument about his neuro-divergence is multifaceted. So, let’s break down the “Elon is Autistic” argument even further.

Let’s start with the obvious. Autism is still very much a controversial topic. People who argue about Autism often mention that it is a mental disability and have used the argument that people with autism are incapable of living a successful life. With that in mind, it is, therefore, akin to saying that Elon is too mentally disabled to understand the immorality connected to the Nazi salute. This leads me to ask you, if he is mentally incapable of understanding this, why are we encouraging him to be in some level of government?

Another reason why using the Autism argument doesn’t work is this: if we give Elon a get-out-of-jail-free card because of his autism, why aren’t we giving that to people who stab and potentially kill people because it was on impulse? For instance, a person with ADHD, which is similar to Autism, has impulse issues. If that person impulsively decides that stabbing their boss is a great idea, does that mean we forgive him and tell him it’s okay? No. Because that person is an adult and knows better.

Guess what, so does Elon Musk.

It wasn’t a Nazi Salute. It’s the Roman Salute.

Now we get to the real fun part here. Hate to break it to you, but Hitler took the “Roman Salute” from Italy because he was inspired by the fascist government and admired Mussolini. That alone says the salute Elon made is a Nazi Salute because the Nazi Salute is the Roman Salute. But, if you want more history, the “Roman Salute” is a salute Mousalini stole from another country to mock that country.

What country is that? The United States of America.

Yep, an American made that salute. In fact, it’s the first salute we used for the Pledge of Allegiance. Mussolini hated the USA and wanted to mock them, so he stole the salute and ran with it. Sadly, it’s gone back to its roots.

In Conclusion.

I’m not posting this so that you can argue with that person who defends Musk. In fact, I encourage you to ignore them, report them, and block them. Remember how they felt after the elections and continue in that fashion. They want an argument to get you so spun up that you cannot think.

I’m posting this to tell you you aren’t crazy. He did do the Nazi Salute. Elon Musk is a fascist oligarch who is a Nazi. It’s that simple. And until his actions say otherwise, my opinion will not change.

You will be told you are wrong. You will be mocked. You will be guilted into thinking what you saw wasn’t real. Don’t fall for that trap. Instead, step back and review what you’ve seen and heard. Write their arguments down and try to find the argument against them. When you do, it will be obvious.

And when you have them. Laugh at them. Laugh loud and hard at the people who are defending this action. Make art. Sing and dance. The one thing they hate more than anything is a person unaffected by their actions. They hate happiness and people willing to stand and protect.

Remember that you aren’t alone, and others are at your side. I am here, and I know what I saw.

*I refuse to give the 47th president his name. He is unworthy of that. He may be human, but until he acts with compassion and empathy toward his fellow man, he will forever be called the 47th president.*

The name of every single person who had a hand in ruining her life is burned in her memory and she won’t stop until every name is stamped “paid in full”.

But as she falls deeper and deeper into her plot for revenge, she begins to doubt her new found bloodlust will be sated when she reaches the end of her list. When love is unexpectedly rekindled and secrets are revealed, Reyna must decide who she wants to be.

Before the enemy lurking in the shadows gets close enough to strike.

Declan Sharp has been searching for Reyna since her disappearance fifteen years ago. They had been best friends since middle school and he’d just worked up the courage to tell her how he really felt about her when she’d vanished.

Between his work hunting Texas’s abusive scum and his hunt for his best friend, he didn’t have much time for anything else. Especially not being abducted like some novice.

An unexpected discovery and long kept secrets threaten to upend his whole world.
