I was born into a family of professional wrestlers, raised in Bakersfield, California, and my writing career began on a dare from a theatre director, which worked out well since I wasn't a very good actor anyway. My award-winning novels include, Dog Logic and Water Memory (Dog Logic sequel). I have one screen credit, Out There (Showtime), and my plays include BAFO (Best and Final Offer) which had its world premiere at South Coast Repertory and its New York premiere at the American Place Theatre (APT); Dog Logic, which also had its world premiere at South Coast Repertory and won a Kennedy Center Fund For New American Plays award for its New York premiere at the APT (and was also the seed for the novel); and Neon Psalms, winner of the Dramati ...more

great voice, great yarn, great read

A delightful surprise from the vert first page—a legal, mystical, culinary, criminal, extraterrestrial, paranormal, existential, agricultural, single malt, out of body epic!

a really fun and interesting read

A delightful find with the ideal mix of period language in the character’s dialog and in the narrative, the historical context, and the mystery. There should be a follow up novella!

“We have taken that into careful consideration and deliberation, and we believe that the rescue and safety of the children outweighs the risk of accidentally killing or otherwise harming the children.”
Tom Strelich, Dog Logic

“Maybe that’s what it was like for the believers, where even when they’re not singing those words, they’re in that place with God and Jesus and angels and Santa Claus and Unicorns and Fairies and big rock candy mountains. He pitied them for believing such crap, and he envied them for it too. They were children, and he cherished them.”
Tom Strelich, Dog Logic

“And in the years that followed, Hertell would marvel at how the routine can become the pivotal with the slam of a car door.”
Tom Strelich, Dog Logic

“And in the years that followed, Hertell would marvel at how the routine can become the pivotal with the slam of a car door.”
Tom Strelich, Dog Logic

“Kaye continued walking and smiled to herself. She stopped suddenly. “Where’s Yappy?” “Dead.” He stood watching Kaye who said nothing. “Buried him right next to dad out there at the pyramid.” “When’d he die?” “Right after Dad. Yappy, just kind of... well you know how dogs are, very emotional, they take these things personally. He used to sit outside Dad’s bedroom. I mean, the room is still full of the man, only he’s not there, to be seen, anymore. Dog has one of the most precisely logical minds to be found in nature. Death doesn't make any sense to a dog, he has no appreciation of it. Like we do. He doesn't know it’s coming for him too. If he did, he'd just say, ‘what is this shit, who’s in charge here, what’s the point?”
Tom Strelich, Dog Logic

“We have taken that into careful consideration and deliberation, and we believe that the rescue and safety of the children outweighs the risk of accidentally killing or otherwise harming the children.”
Tom Strelich, Dog Logic

“He was the issue of a gritty pod of dustbowl Okies who blew into Bakersfield back when Steinbeck was trolling the lower depths of Lamont and Weedpatch for protagonists.”
Tom Strelich, Dog Logic

“redemption, salvation, life everlasting and all that—but beautiful nonetheless, and no doubt comforting to those weak enough to need them and simple enough to believe them.”
