Or what if I was a vampire that a future space agency sends on a first “manned” mission to a star, using my ability to sleep for centuries. I can come up with these all day. My problem is turning a weird idea into a story that someone might want to read. Problems must arise that have to be overcome, and sometimes, I struggle with finding the problems. I watch movies, read books, magazines and current news, sometimes finding the seeds for those problems. Sometimes, I will grind through writing even if not feeling inspired. Then clean it up later. Or just throw it out.(less)

I loved the movie "Avatar", but it got wrong many of details of what living on a moon would be like. So I decided I wanted a habitable moon for a backdrop. For some details on how things would be different on a moon, see my blog here on Goodreads. After deciding what my world was like and the universe that it was set in, I had to come up with a story. I started by writing down half a dozen ideas and starting working on one. Then after I was 12K words in, decided I didn't like it and threw it out. Started with a fresh batch of ideas and picked a new one.(less)

Living on a Moon in a Distant Star System

Living on a Moon in a Distant Star System

My next novel is set (for the most part) on the world Bahram which is a moon around a gas giant orbiting a star somewhere out there in the Orion Spur. Mostly due to tidal locking, living on a moon would have some unique differences compared to living on a planet.

Bahram is described as being tidally locked to its gas giant, meaning that the same side of th Read more of this blog post »

“People cited violation of the First Amendment when a New Jersey schoolteacher asserted that evolution and the Big Bang are not scientific and that Noah's ark carried dinosaurs. This case is not about the need to separate church and state; it's about the need to separate ignorant, scientifically illiterate people from the ranks of teachers.”
