Hi, I'm Maria Johnson (pen name) author of 4 published novels by Olympia Publishers, London.

They are a Dark Ages era historical fiction trilogy:: The Boy from the Snow, The Veiled Wolf and The Reckoning of Rheged.

I also have a stand-alone fantasy mystery for older children and adults, Lottie's Locket.

I'm also a Christian and a minister's wife.

As well as writing and reading, I also love swimming, spending time with friends and a good cup of coffee. Hope to meet and engage with you on Good Reads! :)

Going for a walk is great, as you can often be inspired by what you see around you, even the particular shape of a tree could prompt an idea to continue a scene or where you might go with a character. A good tip is to try to always carry a notebook and pen with you so you can scribble ideas down on the go (looking where you're going, though, obviously!)

Another tip is to try not to get down about it. Some days are slower writing days than others and sometimes you might not write at all- that's ok, it might be a break refreshes things for you a bit. :)(less)

I've loved getting to know the writing community, too- on Twitter so far but really looking forward to engaging with writers and readers on Good Reads, too.

Writing more has also inspired me to get back into reading, which I love. I love engaging with other authors about their work & supporting them. :)(less)

Maria Johnson and 8 other people liked Zoe Adams's review of Shy Creatures:
Shy Creatures by Clare Chambers
"This is the first Clare Chambers book I really have struggled with. I found myself really bored with the back story, and desperately wanting to come back to the present. But even that story soon began to drag. What a disappointment. "

Charlotte Brontë
“Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong! - I have as much soul as you, - and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you!”
Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

Beatrix Potter
“There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you.”
Beatrix Potter

Iris Murdoch
“Starting a novel is opening a door on a misty landscape; you can still see very little but you can smell the earth and feel the wind blowing.”
Iris Murdoch
