Autumn is an author and feminist theologian who has been writing, appearing on television, and speaking internationally about reproductive justice and feminism since 2010 when she founded Richmond Clinic Defense to help escort patients past protesters at an abortion clinic in Richmond, Virginia. Autumn is also an abortion doula and aspiring Anglican deacon who provides women with transportation, housing, funds, childcare, and other necessities free of cost as they seek abortion care. She is the author of the Humanist Ceremonies Handbook (Humanist Press, 2018) and is currently at work on her second book, Theology and Reproductive Justice: Why Reproductive Dignity Matters in the Kindom of God (2019).

People are so obsessed with writing the "right" things and in the "right" way that they often just find themselves staring at a blank page. Just write. Stream of consciousness, if you must. But write. Something will jump out at you.

I think another problem we often have is that we assume we don't have anything new or interesting to say about something. We think everything has been written. So, if you're in that place, grab a book on the topic about which you want to write. Then look for all the places you disagree. Look for places where you absolutely agree but think the author didn't go far enough. There. Now you can write something about it.(less)

We Are the Storm

I didn’t expect the news story about my abortion doula work to get as much attention as it did. I thought maybe I’d get a few emails (some good, some bad) and maybe a few more patients and a doula or two and just keep on doing what I’ve been doing. But the response has been overwhelming, to say the least.
