Karla Clark wanted to be an author when she was a child...then she wanted to be an artist. She feels very blessed to be both. Her passion for writing comes from her father who was a consummate storyteller. She is the author of six books—three novels, a book of short stories, and two children’s picture books. She has made over 100 visits to local women’s book clubs from 2003-2018, is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustartors, Rockford Arts Council, and Chicago Writer’s Association.

Karla lives in Rockford, Illinois, with her husband and adult autistic son. She has a degree in journalism from Northern Illinois University. When she's not writing, she's creating decoupage paper collages that she sells at an annual art s ...more

Karla Clark Ahhh. It’s funny, but it’s never been a problem for me because I just don’t view times when I am not writing as being “blocked.” I view it as just not…moreAhhh. It’s funny, but it’s never been a problem for me because I just don’t view times when I am not writing as being “blocked.” I view it as just not being a good, creative moment...and I try to do something else. I only write when I am moved to write. I am an artist as well as an author, so when I’m not writing I create paper collages that I sell at art shows. As long as I am doing something creative, I never feel stifled. But if I had to face deadlines, I am sure I would confront that terrible phenomenon!(less)

When you are a writer, you have to keep an open mind about people. You have to try to understand the minds of good people and not-so-good people. Writing is a way to not only express yourself, but also a creative platform to fictionally right some wrongs, change the world, and makes dreams come true. YOU BE MOMMY

Good news, fellow readers and authors! YOU BE MOMMY has done so well that my publisher will be releasing a board book version for the little ones on March 30, 2021. It will be nice to have both versions from which to choose. I know my own kids loved the “feel” of a board book in their hands—so much easier for those little hands to turn the page!
