I want to support Carla in her endeavours to really tell the story of living with ADHD. I'll put this book 'on hold' while I await my own, bought from my fav Canadian bookstore - The Bookman.

I did the deep dive last year with ADHD non fiction books after finally figuring out (accepting) the way I am. Seeking fiction books this year, though I found this biography - Carla Ciccone's book, Nowhere Girl. Here's some quotes that resonated with me:
pg 11. "... grappling with the pain that comes form learning something essential much later than you should have."

"Discovering that I was actually part of a big, chaotic sisterhood felt like being ushered into a secret group that I had been searching for my whole life. It was cathartic, hearing from other people whose life experiences mirrored mind. I felt less alone in the world."

pg 12. "While being undiagnosed, untreated, and ignored for most of our lives means for Nowhere Girls is incredibly complicated. A late diagnosis forces one to look back and filter the past through a different, hopefully kinder lens, but the process of reliving your entire life in order to change your mind about it is gnarly."

pg. 15. "I began the work of examining the narrative I've been telling myself about my life."

pg 16 "Everyone invited late to the ADHD party has felt a sense of relief to have a diagnosis to point to, but our emotions are in conflict. We are sad and frustrated about the time we've wasted on doubting and blaming ourselves for being different."

pg 17 "We deserve to experience the ease that has eluded us thus far. No one is going to give this gift to us. We have to take it."

My library catalogue tells me it's the only one of its kind.
