Never Give Up

To new and upcoming authors I know that things may seem bleak at the moment. Writing seems to be the easiest job. It's what comes after that may have some of us discouraged.

Finding the right publisher, finding the right editors, proofreaders, covers, and the big one promotion. These all can be tedious tasks.

I have a publisher, so she can have my work edited. But for those that don't have a publisher, editing can be astronomical in charge. Then having to hire a proofreader to make sure that the editor caught everything.

You dish out all of this money only for your book to fail (in your eyes). People not sharing your posts, people not one clicking your book. These are issues that sometimes cause one to become discouraged and say nevermind on the writing.

Well, this post is to let you know not to give up. I am an author who has 7 published works available on Amazon. My books are not doing as well as some of these authors. The fact that this urban fiction industry is a popularity contest definitely discourages me from wanting to continue my career.

Then I read my few reviews and they are amazing. I have five stars and four stars, showing the handful that chose to review actually likes my work. That is what encourages me to continue. I knew to come into this industry that it wasn't going to be an instant jackpot.

The work is hard, but no one will believe in you unless you believe in you. If you can have 10 faithful people read your work then you are winning. Yes, it is lovely to have thousands of dollars rolling in monthly but that will take time.

What I am trying to say is that push yourself. Promote until you can't promote anymore. Engage with your readers even if it is only a few that read your book(s). Have patience. Patience is a virtue and it takes time.

I hope this first little blog that I have written encourages someone.

Until next time

Sincerely,
