Derek Chowen was born in a tiny hospital in the little burg of Onaway, MI. Chowen was never one to sit still or settle for the status quo. From racing cars to racing sailboats, his desire for competition and pushing limits follows him wherever he goes. He has been everything from a successful tech company owner to stock broker to bank president to bartender and finally, one of the fabled "town drunks" living homeless in a pole barn.

Go somewhere new or someplace completely disconnected with what I am writing about. Pick a radio station or playlist that I don't have memorized and get away from the pen and paper.

Sometimes just that change of scenery or a new song will open up the logjam that is my brain.(less)

I write about big "life" things but try to do so in a way that lets my readers know we are walking the path together.

Taking a leap of faith and going on a journey with an author is a big commitment and I truly appreciate that. I also work hard to honor my commitment and give my readers a sense of hope and fulfillment.

The messages I get from my readers make all the effort worthwhile.(less)
