I then branched out into using pencils, colouring pens and paper, moving on to writing pads and then my first computer.

So, as you’ve probably gathered, I have always enjoyed making up stories and the super-hero genre has been one of my favourites.

The CV-type stuff is that I went to Sheffield Hallam University to study English. I then trained and briefly worked as a journalist in Salford. After that, I moved into publishing – which was great. An interesting and fun industry to be in and fascinating to see how books

So what happens to James and Samantha Blake in book 2? Well...

In 1987, 16-year-old Katie Blake died in mysterious circumstances in a stream in Witches Wood.
In 2009, a teenage couple enter the wood one hot, summer night and encounter her ghost.
In 2011, James and Samantha Blake are staying at their grandparents’ farmhouse, close to Witches Wood, while they come to terms with their new superpowers.

Those powers are soon put to the test. James comes face-to-face with the ghost of Katie Blake – his long-dead aunt – and discovers that she may be responsible for a number of grisly deaths that have occurred in the wood. Meanwhile, Sam foils an armed robbery in a nearby village and sets in motion a chain of terrible events that threatens the whole family.

Sir Michael Rosewood, owner of the world’s largest pharmaceutical firm, knows the secret of their superpowers and has taken a keen interest in the Blake family. But is he friend or foe?

Well, since I mentioned her shortbread, that would be a good one to try. Is Scottish shortbread popular in the US? Is it even known by the same name? It’s my favourite. Hope you like it. She got this one from a BBC Good Food recipe book, so its not her own. But like any recipe, you adapt it to your own taste don't you.

Shortbread

Ingredients
150g/60z plain flour
100g/40z slightly salted butter, cut into pieces and softened
50g/2oz golden caster sugar
caster sugar for sprinking

Preheat the oven to 150C/Gas 2/fan oven 130C
Put some music on! I’d recommend some Duran Duran or Jessie J, but that’s up to you.
Put the flour in a mixing bowl, add the butter and rub together to make fine crumbs. Stir in the sugar.

Work the mixture together until it forms a ball.
Turn out on a work surface and knead briefly until smooooth. Roll and pat out on a very lightly floured surface to an 18cm/7in round.
Smooth the surface with your hands.
Carefully slide the dough on to an ungreased baking sheet and flute the edges.
Mark the circle into eight triangles with a knife, not cutting all the way through.
Prick the surface with a fork.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until cooked. (This is the tricky bit. You don’t want it undercooked so its soft. but nor do you want it overdone do its too dry. It’ll be trial and error with your oven, I’m afraid.)

The shortbread should be very pale. While still warm, cut through the markings and sprinkle with caster sugar.
Cool before eating.
Serve with a glass of milk and Star Trek:TNG episode “The Game”. Corker.

And they all lived … etc (well it is a book website after all!)
