Mount Kailash and the Hidden Geography of Power

Shared from Mu the Motherland

There are many sacred places in the world, but few are treated with the same level of reverence as Mount Kailash. It is not simply admired—it is left alone. No verified ascent has ever reached its summit. Attempts have been discouraged, denied, or abandoned. Pilgrims do not climb it—they walk around it, tracing a ritual path known as the kora, circling the mountain

“Love Dogs

One night a man was crying,
Allah! Allah!
His lips grew sweet with the praising,
until a cynic said,
"So! I have heard you
calling out, but have you ever
gotten any response?"

The man had no answer to that.
He quit praying and fell into a confused sleep.

He dreamed he saw Khidr, the guide of souls,
in a thick, green foliage.
"Why did you stop praising?"
"Because I've never heard anything back."
"This longing
you express is the return message."

The grief you cry out from
draws you toward union.

Your pure sadness
that wants help
is the secret cup.

Listen to the moan of a dog for its master.
That whining is the connection.

There are love dogs
no one knows the names of.

Give your life
to be one of them.”
Jalal Al-Din Rumi

“I wanted to write books for kids that would have positive values without being heavy-handed. “Aidan and the Dragon Girl Save the World” is about being centered, brave and compassionate, even when it’s tough and things get really weird. Like in life! I do allow my love of Zen, science, history and the environment to peek through, just a bit, but if I have succeeded, young (and older) readers won’t notice that I stuck all that stuff in there, they’ll just have fun reading the book!”

I downloaded these guides for free from AARP to my Kindle awhile ago. I found practical advice and a starting place. The big decision for me is if aging in place is key or if a move is in the future. I love my house and Sonoma County, so I think the first option is the best, but we'll see.

Susan Hi Elaine, what is your take on "The Aging Well Revolution?". I'm reading a number of books on aging and spirituality. What would you say is the major focus on this book? (That is, if it can be synthesized in that way...)
