The Dying Butterfly

If you enjoy post-apocalyptic stories you might enjoy this one. I wrote this in 2016. I wanted to not only write something my husband would read but also put right the things in zombie stories that always ticked me off. Of course, no story can go without some romance.

This story follows the main character Holly, who has her whole life planned out. First, to go to college, and then, marry the love of her life, Tony when the world she knows turns upside down.

As the virus spread, the death toll ros...

On A Dime

A few nights ago I looked out my living room window to see why there were so many flashing red and blue lights. I noticed not one, but from my obstructed view, six police cars, and crime tape that stretched across the four city lanes.

Curious about what was going on, practically in my backyard, I went outside. It turned out that a pedestrian was struck by a car that was now parked on the side of the road. The driver was still there but the person hit was taken to hospital.

The accident took place ...

The Unbreakable Bond: Destiny’s Hand in Connecting Me With the Dog That Saved Me

My Story of Destiny

I can dig right down into the weeds on destiny, but I will save you all that chatter. What I will say is before Ozzy, for me, destiny was a nice thought. Especially when good things were happening or a person entering my world brightened it. But was it real? Mostly I believed what happened was a coincidence. If the word destiny crossed my lips it was only me fantasizing that there might be something larger than us at play. I simply wasn’t convinced, until Ozzy.

I have experien...

Third Evacuation - Time is Running Out. We Must Do Something

Third Evacuation - Time is Running Out. We Must Do Something by Francisco Villate.Disclaimer! This book review is one I previously wrote when I had my webpage and was starting the YouTube channel I mentioned in a previous newsletter. I enjoyed it enough that I wanted to share it here in my Substack newsletter with you.

Fear is a F*cking Beast

Canva creation

Thanks for reading Author D.L Fletcher - The Reading Corner! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

Fear is a fucking beast. It keeps me still and silent. The only sound I hear is its overlapping chatter in my mind, reminding me that I don’t have ‘it’. Whatever ‘it’ might be.

Fear teases me, releasing me periodically by allowing me bits of time with my friend Confidence. I find myself falling for those moments taking action with newfound vigor, only to have Fear...

Great Books by Robin Ginther Venneri

I was brought up in a family that very much appreciated the world of psychics.

My grandmother would visit one particular gentleman every couple of years. I won’t get into the specifics of the readings but from the stories I had heard following her readings and knowing what had happened or eventually came to pass with members of our family, his readings were, for the most part, very accurate. He clearly had a good reputation with many as his waiting list was two years long.

My grandmother wasn’t ...

Bitter Honey

Bitter Honey by Sharon Mierke

I just finished the last page. I feel the need to write this while I am still in the feels of this book!

The story begins in 1934 during the Depression and a drought. The family is deciding if they are to walk away from the lands their grandmother Henrietta Blakey made a home on when the West was being settled.

This story is told by Henrietta Blakey. She is 103 years old. She has never really spoken about her past. Only brief comments in reference to her family have e...

Misguided Perceptions

Misguided Perceptions by Colleen C Moore.

Disclaimer! This book review is one I previously wrote when I had my webpage and was starting the YouTube channel I mentioned in my last newsletter. I enjoyed it enough that I wanted to share it here in my Substack newsletter with you.

Where to start? When Colleen reached out asking me to review her book I went to Amazon to first, see if it was something that would interest me. The first thing I saw obviously was the cover. I loved it! Second, I read the '...

Life and Mind is Now the Reading Corner? Say what!

I thought when I started my journey on Substack that I would write personal stories sprinkling in some writing articles. I thought personal stories were something I had many of. At least many that would be interesting to write and people would read.

Turns out I only have a few personal stories that I feel are share-worthy. I still have a few that I think are worth telling and eventually, I will share those, but what I keep coming back to is writing about writing.

From here on, I am going to shift...

I can Use your Help

There are a few things I find to be the hardest when writing:

The title,

The cover,

The first few chapters, and

The summary

A Story idea is simple enough but for me to start a book I require the above listed, in the order listed to assist me in writing.

Some writers prefer to save the cover for last. Some may even prefer to save the title for last. Me, having the title and the cover gives me a visual for the story.

I am asking for your help on this. I have the title. I have also created a few covers....
