What's New in the Smart Girl Mafia Series
How has the year started for you?
It has been a quiet start to the year for me, giving me lots of time to ponder the antics of Emma + Will, Book #4 of the Smart Girl Mafia Series.
Here’s what I know:
-The story will be set in West Oakland and Los Angeles.
-Emma is a retired classical musician who has transitioned into a career in Finance.
-Will worked on Wall Street after a college basketball career did not lead to getting drafted to the NBA. He will be the only Ivy League educated hero in the series.
-This Awkwafina video definitely sparks ideas for Emma. (that voice!)
-Will grew up in the black church and was raised by a single dad.
-I love playing with the troupes of romance, and originally I planned this story to be an office romance AWBM. We’ll see how it goes once I sit down to write.
-Emma doesn’t do relationships anymore so we’ll see how that sits with Will.
I can’t wait to share their story with you. I try not make release date announcements until I know for sure, but what’s written in my calendar is May 2020… but I’m staying open.
What I can promise is that there will be at least 2 Smart Girl Mafia releases this year.

I love reader's thoughts and insights. I love that the world of the Smart Girl Mafia invokes powerful feelings. I love when readers "feel their feelings" and share them with me.... thoughtfully and passionately.
At this stage in the Series, I read EVERY freakin' review and email. Because I care.
I put out books as I am creatively guided from within. I never plot. I wouldn't say I'm a pantser. I make characters. I research characters. I just let character bits bubble up and then piece them together like a puzzle.
Yes, I have a team of folks that I jam with before finally hitting publish. But ultimately, I return to the question: "Would this character do this? Say this? Feel this way? Is this entertaining, even if it doesn't feel good?"
Way back when, I was an actor, so I use those skills as I tell a story. I immerse my writer self in the POV of a character. And I work to not censor those responses while still doing my part to keep a story moving and within the context of happily-ever-after.
Even the songs I feature in the books... I ask myself, would this character really be into this song? Why? Every word in my writer world matters. Every decision a character makes is purposeful. Leading a reader somewhere.
There are many more stories to come. There will be a total of 9 books in the Smart Girl Mafia Series. I think of them as seasons of a TV show.
Lots of sneak peeks about the rest of the series are weaved throughout Space Between. What did you discover?
Lastly, I write for people who think and feel and think and feel and believe in the all-powerful energy of happily-ever-after (no matter how my hero and heroine get there). I write for the superfan. I'm most interested in the folks that are into it. Feeling it.
So, if you're feeling it... drop me a note.

A Stoner Couple in a Romance Novel?
What the what? A romance novel about a stoner couple?
Yeah. I went there. Purposefully. Soulfully.
My goal in writing, Break Free, was to write something fun, sexy, and modern, but with a weed-positive message.
Lynn + Nick from Break Free are both professionally successful characters who use cannabis.
They are not drug dealers or criminals or gangsters.
They are medicinal marijuana users in California (a legal state) who treat, respectively, ADHD and chronic pain.
Their use and interest in marijuana are not central to the story, but they are definitely passionate connoisseurs.
An early reviewer of the book wrote, "It’s a light, sexy read with great dialogue and two main characters that really tickled me. I live in the Netherlands (close to Amsterdam) but have never been tempted to enjoy all that the country has to offer until now. Thanks Lynn, for making me think about broadening my horizons."
So yes, I wrote a stoner couple. Yes, you’re going to learn a lot about weed from reading Break Free. But underneath it all, you will discover a very loving and sexy read.
