Connla Freyjason prefers to think outside the box, even as he practices the Old Ways. Having spent the past twenty years as a Pagan, he is a practicing vitki and also a digital artist. Author of Norse Witch: Reclaiming the Heidhrinn Heart, his is a voice straight from the Otherworld. The “presiding spirit” currently “horsed” by Ollamh Michelle Iacona, he is also the CEO of Iaconagraphy (graphic design and outreach), and author of the Iaconagraphy blog.

Raised Buddhist/Taoist with a strong Protestant backbeat, for the past twenty-four years of his afterlife, Connla has explored various Pagan paths, including Wicca, Kemeticism, and Welsh Reconstructionist Druidry, before settling into Norse Witchcraft. His brand of Heidhrinnry (pronounced the same way as “Heathenry”) is Norse “Reconstruction-ish”: celebrating the Spirit of the Norse Tradition, rather than treating History as the Letter of the Law.

Fulltrui of Freyja (called a “dedicant” in other Pagan Traditions), Connla sports twenty years of experience with Norse runes (Elder Futhark), as well as various oracle decks. He is also a practitioner of certain aspects of seidhr, and is currently exploring the use of Tibetan singing bowls in the practice of healing galdr.

Connla tends to view the words “presiding spirit” as a wee bit presumptuous, and his status as a channeled spirit as “the elephant in the room that everyone actually wants to talk about.” However, he would much rather be regarded as a man with a valuable voice; a man who has something worthwhile to say, via both his art and his writing. He just happens to also be a man, like most men, who got where he is right now through considerable help from very dear friends and loved ones.

Hailing previously from North Carolina, Connla currently resides in Massachusetts, along with his “hostess-with-the-mostest”, Michelle, and his Beloved, Suzanne. He is owned by a large blue-gray feline, Kili Freyjason, and enjoys cooking, home-making, paper-crafting, and learning as much as he possibly can about those things which spark his passions. ...more

But the more time I spent in Heathen groups, being repeatedly told that *I* was "doing it wrong", and watching countless people become alienated and subsequently walk away because *they* were being told "you're doing it wrong", the more I realized I have a *voice*, and I need to *use* it. Around that same time, I became aware of the stigma of the word "witch" in both Heathen and other Pagan Traditions: in other words, if you are on a Norse Path, you're patently *not* a witch. A self-proclaimed etymology nut, I couldn't let that stand, either. So I started writing. 415 pages later (including the bibliography), Norse Witch: Reclaiming the Heidhrinn Heart was born.(less)

I was actually courted by one of the bigger Pagan-specific presses for this book, but chose instead to help my "hostess" and best friend *finally* realize her dream of starting a small press. In fact, I consider it a very high honor to be the first book on her imprint. For future books, I'm really going to try to schedule my time better, and I hope that as more books are released by Iaconagraphy, people will get less confused about the fact that my books--and others' books--are being published by an actual small press.(less)
