Born and raised in New England back when the rocks were still soft and cooling.

Joined the USMC in the 1980s and traveled the world a bit, enjoying most of the trips.

Being an apparent late bloomer, finally graduated with a Bachelor's in Computer Sciences, Information Technology/Network Administration in 2008.

I have been a writer of stories and poetry all of my life. Some of it has been great, other stuff, well, not so much. My biggest writing idols and influences include J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen King, Clive Barker, Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert, and Ray Bradbury.

I never paid much attention to comic books as a kid, but as an adult, comics, graphic novels, manga, and anime now have a big appeal.

I play with people who are very detail oriented so having obscure details on hand to answer questions was essential!

After writing the poem, "The Battle of Arondayre," I shelved the idea, archiving my writings on my computer. In 2016, I rediscovered the files and posted them on Facebook. A friend told me that she really liked the poetry. I responded that, "I had a book in me somewhere." She responded that I should write it about a person in the poem. I chose Puryn, the Champion.

The story itself was influenced by people that I have met in my life, my experiences in the Marine Corps, Dungeons and Dragons, C.S. Lewis, and most definitely, a healthy dose of J.R.R. Tolkien. (less)

So, when I don't know what I want to say, I free write. If that does not work, I write about something else for a while, or I listen to my "writing music."

Thomas Bergersen's music always gets my fantasy writing motor running. Find music that inspires you, and things fall into place!(less)

First Day of Writing in the Books

Yesterday I wrote the prologue to my new book. Being a sequel, it had to fall in line with the end of my first book, but I already did all of the prep work a couple of days ago.

I can't say that I had writer's block, per se, but I was experiencing a logjam of different angles that I could use to attack my introduction to my next labor of love. This was a minor annoyance and distraction so I started Read more of this blog post »

J.R.R. Tolkien
“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

“There is no room for ignorance on this road of independence”
Tayler Macneill, The Darkest Side Of The Moon

J.R.R. Tolkien
“I sit beside the fire and think
Of all that I have seen
Of meadow flowers and butterflies
In summers that have been

Of yellow leaves and gossamer
In autumns that there were
With morning mist and silver sun
And wind upon my hair

I sit beside the fire and think
Of how the world will be
When winter comes without a spring
That I shall ever see

For still there are so many things
That I have never seen
In every wood in every spring
There is a different green

I sit beside the fire and think
Of people long ago
And people that will see a world
That I shall never know

But all the while I sit and think
Of times there were before
I listen for returning feet
And voices at the door”
J.R.R. Tolkien
