Sometimes I just have to slog through a tough scene, even if I don’t like the outcome, and get past it, and then go back later and fix it.

That being said, sometimes I do need a break from my story world, so I can come back to it with fresh eyes, and sometimes that is exactly what my stories need. I let myself take a break sometimes, and I play around with other ideas. But I really try not to break the habit of writing everyday.(less)

I’ll offer four things:

- The biggest piece of advice I can give is to keep at it, and make it a habit. When I make myself write everyday, I produce my best writing. It’s hard to get good if you do it sporadically, or never finish a project.

- Finish that first novel, learn from the process, and be willing to set it aside and move on to the next thing. It took me quite awhile to do that with my first novel. But it was the best thing I ever did. My second (The Shadow Watch) was so much better. And my third (coming soon) is better than the second.

- Try to take every failure or rejection as an opportunity to learn and grow as a writer.

- Keep reading good books, and make note of what those writers do well. And then, keep writing. The more you write, the better you’ll get.(less)

Writing in 2022 – A Year in Review

A little about life
2022 has been a huge year for me, personally. It’s been a year of trying to be healthier (both mentally and physically) and find more balance amidst a lot of busyness and stress. It hasn’t always been perfect, but it was a whole lot better than the previous couple of years. My second son, Parker, was born this spring, and both my sons have been enormous blessings. The time a

Several years ago, I read the two prequel Witcher collections and the first novel. I absolutely loved the short story collections. The first novel left me wanting. And I took a break.

Randomly decided to return. And enjoyed this one, but agai

This one is right up there with King's On Writing for me.

I haven't read a ton of Palahniuk, but Fight Club is one of my all time favorites. So I picked this up on a whim.

And it was a blast!

Malice was a really enjoyable epic fantasy that was just the vibe I was hoping it would be. Kind of like Rand embroiled in Game of Thrones. Much as I felt with Shadow of the Gods, there were secondary POV characters I was quite a bit less i

Guard in the Garden was really charming, and really everything you could ask for from a cozy fantasy.

After reading several darker books, it was the perfect palette cleanser for me. I felt for Felton as he dealt with a change of roles and a wavering s
