Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, Woods and his family soon moved to the remote Appalachian Mountains in Wise County, Virginia. By the age of eight, Woods was testing himself both physically and mentally, commonly engaging in solo treks alone, having access to caves and thousands of acres of mountainous terrain. Reeves, professor of biology at Virginia Military Institute. For several years, Woods was sponsored by the Big Stone Gap Virginia Dogwood Garden Club to attend Nature Camp, Inc., located in the George Washington National Forest near Vesuvius, Virginia. A two-week study of natural sciences, Woods was chosen Best Camper in 1982. Woods began weightlifting at 13 and competed in wrestling and track for Powell Valley High School, where he was chosen as his wrestling team's MVP in 1983.

Though Woods' wrestling career ended after a severe wrist injury, his disciplined, multi-aspect approach to training continued. Initially, Woods combined high-intensity training with frequent challenges through rugged terrain and severe environments. By the early-1990's, Woods began training in martial arts, eventually earning black belts in Isshinryu Karate, Senido Karate and Cata Pon Jutsu. In 2017, Woods created his own martial way, Tsukuneko-Do (Way of the Moon Cat), which represents his fusion of martial arts, strength training, fitness, tactical weapons, and wilderness agility (collectively referred to as the DOMINUS V). Woods is still known for his intense outdoor training sessions, regardless of weather conditions.

A prolific lyricist, Woods is currently working on three series: the POMMEL Trilogy, THE CODEX BELLUM, and BEEN. The POMMEL series is an often poetic-work of fantasy-fiction, much-inspired by Joseph Campbell's template of the hero's journey. THE CODEX BELLUM is a self-development guide on improving tangible & intangible strengths, developing greater tactical awareness, and with an overall theme that, for the warrior-archetype, through self-discipline, entwined with pursuing, improving or defending larger causes, one becomes 'found' by meaning. BEEN describes the caves and off-trail wonders found deep within the Appalachian Mountains. The latest BEEN installment guides the reader into the wilderness of their fears, unknowns, and discoveries.

In 2011, Woods created a personal training business that, at the time, was considered an innovative fusion of tactical and fitness training. Called TA Trainers ('TA' acronym for Tactical Athletics), it was retooled and renamed CAMEL Team Ops in 2017. Members are described as 'highly trained ambassadors of the spirit of exploration' and have traveled internationally to engage the world's most wondrous terrain.
