HOW TO CREATE THE PERFECT BOOK TITLE

Some might even go as far as saying that coming up with a captivating book title is more difficult than writing the book itself... Well, not really, but at the time it might feel like it.I've thought of an idea to assist in the never-ending process of creating the perfect title for your unique story and that is this: A lot of book titles are shaped around the below templates:___ of ___The ___ ______ and ___A ___ of ______ of ___ and ______ and the ___ of ___The ___ of ______ the ___ ___So what I'm going to ask you to do is list 2 - 3 vital words that truly encapsulate the feel of your story. And after that, ask yourself, "Do these 3 words fit the genre I'm writing?"For example, my soon-to-be-released novel is an epic fantasy tale and the 3 words that I personally believe make up my story are:1. Pembrim (a word I created for the tribal water-species in my book that has great meaning)2 and 3. Hidden World (well, because that's what the story is focused on, the whispers of a hidden world that no one has ever found... Until now)With the above examples, I created 'Pembrim: The Hidden Alcove' using the '___ the ___ ___' rule. You may wish to think of the following: weaponry, characters, the book's setting, words unique only to your story, hierarchy status, etc. Play with the words you first thought of above, you'll notice I changed 'world' to 'alcove' because the hidden world is only found through a small passage known as an alcove. Other examples:Life of PiThe Maze RunnerA Series of Unfortunate EventsChildren of Blood and BoneHarry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanThe Tribulations of August BartonStrange The Dreamerand so on.Try it, see what works for you and maybe even leave a comment below of what you decide to go with! Happy creating.PEMBRIM: THE HIDDEN ALCOVE COMING JUNE 4, 2018.

My Radio Interview on PEMBRIM: THE HIDDEN ALCOVE

On Tuesday, 9th of January 2018, I had my very first interview on my upcoming Young Adult Fantasy fiction novel 'Pembrim: The Hidden Alcove' with River 94.9fm's brekky show hosts, Campo & Michelle with Hinksy. Let me tell you, I might be used to speaking on radio, but I don't think I'll ever be truly accustomed to speaking about MY OWN BOOK, it's a daunting thing trying to best explain exactly why people should invest their money and time into my book among the many millions out there... But just take it from me, if you're a fan of adventure, hidden worlds, never-seen-before creatures, beautiful untouched lands, lost family secrets, mysteries unfolding before your eyes, underwater worlds, ghastly beasts, a cursed timepiece, strong tribes and star-crossed romance... READ IT (pleeeeeeeease!) If you happened to miss the interview and have a soft spot for listening to nervous babbling and passionate writers, you can listen to it here! And, while you're there, take your vote on which River 94.9fm breakfast show host won the audiobook audition: Hinksy, Campo OR Michelle?https://soundcloud.com/breelenehan/i-wrote-a-book-radio-interview To give you a face to the names, you can find a photo of us below. GET TO KNOW: Halia Bodine

Meet Halia, of the ground people, although she'll never take liking to that label. One might say she's controlled by her curious tendencies, vulnerable heart and sarcastic ways. All of which would be utterly and entirely true. She spends her life questing purpose, mystery and adventure, but with a life expectancy of just twenty years, she's running out of time. What happens when purpose, mystery and the life she's destined to live, finds her? This is how I'd always pictured Halia to be... Luscious chocolate locks, with a fiery tinge under the sun. Lips like a peach. Dappled freckles aside her nose. Mysterious, withdrawn and soft to look at... but fearless, curious and strong at heart. I won't give away too much about her, after all, you'll have weeks by her side as she discovers a hidden world and all of its secrets.

GET TO KNOW: Luka

The first impression one gets upon meeting Luka, a previous hunter of the M'deian water clan, is that although his heart is pure, he is troubled with secrets. For one who denies he's capable of feeling love, his eyes show nothing less. He claims to be an ehawee, one who lives alone. But really, he lives his days in hiding, which begs the question... What is it that he's hiding from?

WRITING INSPIRATION - How To Escape Writer's Block

More often than not, we writers fall victim to the inevitable writer's block... A slump that feels near impossible to get out of at the time. If you find yourself in this situation, fear not! Below are 2 enjoyable, productive and simple ways to save yourself from giving up on your writing goals.1. While writing Pembrim, The Hidden Alcove I found myself staring at my laptop for hours, unable to think of a single word to write. That, my friends, is when I met my good ol' pal, Writer's Block, which is less like a friend, and more like a sassy ex girlfriend that comes out of nowhere to drag you back down just as you're feeling content and well. Days would pass, the coffee would eventually run out, and by this time, you've accomplished nothing. Of course, I knew where the story was going, so that's when I said to myself... Move on. And, that's what I did. I left the entire chapter blank and continued writing from a part that excited me. 5,000 words were written that day and IT FELT AMAAAZING. I broke up with Writer's Block and try as she might, she never got me back.2. Sometimes all our imagination needs is a refreshment, a new scenario, one that gets our creative senses tingling. I'm going to write an example, and at the end, I will leave it up to you to solve. How will you get out of this mess?***SCENARIO 1: You've just travelled through space and time to land upon planet Vasna, only to find this creature - a male perricrest - staring at you with concerned eyes, a face painted only with judgement and shoulders recoiling in disgust. You watch him much the same. The sound of his claws scratching against the branch echoes. Drool falls from his lip as his mouth opens, "What on Vasna is that thing?" came a deepened, almighty voice from his tiny frame. You try to speak but before you can, the jungle starts to move, the trees pick themselves up by their branches and stand sentinel around their micro-Lord. "The trees are alive," you gasp. "Capture it! It will feed my young for weeks," orders the perricrest, pointing at you. His mouth curves at the corners to the thought, he's almost itched his branch in half from excitement, and he stays staring at you through glassy eyes, awaiting your death.- What do you do? Remember, we are writers, our options are limitless!

GET TO KNOW: Chief Weketo

Chief Weketo, the long ruling chief of M'deia, two hundred and thirty-five years, to be exact. A king, if you will. One who is never questioned, one who is respected among all, the one who lead the underwater tribes to safety after the destruction and ruin of their previous home. But is his past truly clean of secrets? Or could he be the one to blame for the death of his own son and the mother of his unborn grandchild?- This is how I'd pictured Chief Weketo to look, adding some gills, scales, a fin mohawk, barnacle pointed shoulders and emerald green skin of course!

GET TO KNOW: Their World & Their Way

The water clan live in a beautiful, glowing world. They survive among alluring creatures, ghastly beasts, floating coral mountains, frost breathing baby dragons, living seaweed that tickles whoever lands within it, nibbling moss-rays, a stone clan and the deathly abyssai, a bottomless pit in the ocean floor, it homes monsters not even they know they live amongst... If you could live in this world, or the world above ground, which one would you choose?***The M'deian water clan are emerald green in colour, their scales shimmer like pure white stars and their eyes glow pearl-blue. Dark green markings cover their bodies from head to toe. A vibrant, patterned tail grows from both sides of their waists and stands aside their legs. Because of it, they can swim extreme lengths in unbelievable time. Not only does it give them speed, but strength, enough to break one's arm without even trying. A coral trident is handmade by each warrior as his time comes, as for female warriors, they must use only spears... It is their way. ***A M'deian ceremony known as the T'riliu Trifecta comes around only twice in a warriors life, and considering some live for hundreds of years, it's a rare occasion. The T'riliu Trifecta is where the young warriors prove they are ready to join the hunters. Should they fail, a second opportunity won't come for another eighty-odd-years... If they don't go mad beforehand that is. First, Chief Tyurokai drops a nynx (a delicate glowing creature) into the deathly abyssai, a bottomless pit in the ocean floor, which is filled with beasts and dangers not even they know they live amongst. Secondly, a young warrior must dive into the deathly abyssai, retrieve the nynx and return alive. Only then will he be able to swap places with one of the elder hunters. The catch is, weapons are forbidden. The only protection they have, is the creature born to be their companion of the spirit, whom they do not meet until it senses them at their most fearful point within the ritual. You see, a companion of the spirit is their most deadly weapon of all

GET TO KNOW: Zander Dibble

Zander Dibble, otherwise known as 'black boots', the new boy. When he saunters through the corridors of Halia's high school, she notices something divergent about him instantly. It isn't the way he dresses in all black or his twinkling blue eyes, but a crumpled map, with numbers 1 - 13, sticking out from within his dusty, leather tome. The very same map she saw in her dream the night before. But how could she dream of a map before she's ever seen it? Where do those thirteen steps lead? And, what does a boy she's never seen before have to do with it?

GET TO KNOW: The Dangers of the Timepiece

This is Halia's family heirloom, a timepiece blessed by the power of her father's blood, with it comes the power to turn back time only once. But, amidst her father's untimely death, it is stolen by an unhinged and murderous mind known as Matawe. The blessing of the timepiece is but a curse in unrighteous hands, giving Matawe something he's never had... power. More power than every warrior combined at that. First, he turns the tribes to stone. Next, he wants Halia dead. When Halia comes face to face with her fears, will she finally have the chance to go back in time and save both the stone tribe and her parents' from their unfortunate deaths, or will Matawe rip her heart from her chest before she can?
