How to help your favorite authors when you're broke
It happens.
That struggle when you have to choose between the new Marvel movie and buying a book.
The thing of it is, you really, really, really want the book. You've been waiting forever for sequel, debut, fill-in-the-blank forever.
Sometimes it's not even the latest blockbuster and a bucket of hot buttered popcorn that's the issue. It's maybe bus fare or food or deodorant. And the $15 for a paperback has to be put on the back burner.
Here are a few suggestions how to support your favorite author that will cost you almost nothing.
1) Check the local library online checkout system. Ebooks can be downloaded for free. Libraries keep track on how a book is circulated. It's a win/win.
2) Start a book lending circle amongst trusted friends where you each buy one book a month and trade off. Of course it helps having similar tastes in genre.
3) Review and recommend the books you love on Amazon and Goodreads.
4) Promote books you love on Instagram, Twitter, and other social media. Take selfies holding the book. Provide links for your friends so that they can buy the book.
5) Go to your local libraries and tell them how much you love the author and can't wait to check out the book.
6) Find the author on Goodreads and mark: WANT TO READ on other books by the author.
7) Follow the author on Goodreads, twitter,Tumblr and his/her website.
8) Create art based on the book and tag the author.
9) Email your author, thanking them for writing the book.
10) And when you finally have the cash, go buy the book! Even if you've read it, it'll make a great gift.
Good luck!
