The Story Behind How I Started Writing
I grew up kind of out in the middle of nowhere. My parents wanted to have a goodly amount of property, so we had 11 acres adjacent to a State Park. Neighbors that were within driving distance but not easily walking distance. My bus ride to school was 2 hours or so.
I had a lot of animal friends, like a Disney princess. Except instead of singing to chickens to get them to dance or lay more eggs or whatever, I would hypnotize them in the driveway. If we weren't careful with the pasture gate, the goats would get out and climb on the cars. One time our pony let herself into the house because someone left a door open. I tried to ride our cows and they were not amenable. That kind of thing.
And we had a TV, I guess, but it had like 4 channels on it, and 3 of those were news channels. The fourth only played cartoons on Saturday mornings. So my sister and I had to do other things to stay mentally busy.
And one of the things I chose to do... was write.

6 Awesome Gifts for Book People!
Okay, the post on my blog is focused on writers, because that's what I identify as the most. HOWEVER, I realized as I was reposting this places, that this list is also pretty great for READERS!
It includes such things as: tasty hot beverages, fun mugs in which to put those beverages, lotion that smells delish, and comfy socks. And those things aren't unique to authors.
Heck no!
So if you are or know a writer, then these gifts are going to be great. But! If you are or know a reader (and uhh this is Goodreads so YES if you're reading this, you are/know a reader!), then most of these gifts are going to be perfect!
Also... numbers 1 and 2 could be extra awesome for book bloggers!
So check out my list, and let me know which item on here you would freak out about if you received it as a gift!!

Motivating My Goblin Brain
Woohoo! Let's talk about motivation!
And how motivation is a LIE!
A lie? Motivation? What? Huh?
Okay, maybe it doesn’t mean to be a lie. But motivation is like brain candy: it feels great and lights up all your dopamine and you get all hopped up while you’re under its influence. You can do anything!
The thing that’s going to make the real difference is self-discipline… the vegetables of the brain. Self-discipline is what you need to live on in order to grow big and strong and get stuff done.
Candy/motivation is fine every once in a while, but it’s not something you can live on. First of all, motivation is unpredictable. You don’t know if you’re going to wake up one day and have the motivation to create beautiful words. What if you don’t? Do you just… not write? What if it’s days before you get motivated? Weeks? Months? Years?
No, no, no. You can’t rely on motivation.
Self-discipline is an essential part of your brain’s diet. It’s what gets books written. Motivation is fun and feels good, but discipline is the rock-solid foundation upon which the motivation can sing and dance.
But… developing self-discipline is hard. So how do you do it?
I don’t know.
But I know how *I* do it. So let’s talk about that now!

It's Time For All the Gratitude Posts
It's that time of year.
GRATITUDE!
What are you grateful for?
It's a hard question to answer. Because there's so much to be grateful for. But I'm not going to sit here and yap about the things I'm grateful for. I'm going to yap at you about why gratitude is an essential skill to master.
Because... it is a skill. And you can be good at it, or you can be bad at it.

A Whole New Blog
Hey friends!
So, I used to import my website's blog feed straight to Goodreads. This was my attempt to still interact with GR but not have to BE HERE. Because the general wisdom for authors is, "STAY OFF GOODREADS! GOODREADS IS THE DEVIL!"

And... I don't think that anymore.
I mean, I definitely think authors should stay off their book's reviews on Goodreads, for sure. But there's so much cool stuff here, avoiding it entirely is silly. Silly, I say!
So I'm here now. For real. Not just reaching in with one timid hand, other hand covering my eyes, ready for something to jump up and bite me.
It's going to take me a second to get things figured out. But yeah. I'm here. Actually here. Hello. 🥳
