Beth Mattson is a writer, teacher, and mother in the driftless region of Wisconsin, surrounded by tractors, vegetable sprouts, and beasties of all varieties. She studied at The University of Wisconsin - Madison and California College of The Arts. She teaches at Western Technical College and is an avid pen pal who loves receiving fan art. Ophelia Immune is her first novel, but she has ridiculous poetry about your mom on Twitter and in some chap books. Her laundry is frequently clean, but rarely folded. She laments that emojis are not available in all communication formats.

It is far more likely that I am so drawn to my imagination, a new idea, or concept that I walked into traffic, pulled over to scribble notes, missed a critical meeting, or stared into space while talking to myself. Don't be jealous; it is a real downside. I'm being very literal about the danger of walking into traffic. I can't turn off the tap. (less)

It feels good to admit a passion and skill by embracing my own style and realness. It's amazing to have a job that is all at once creative, indulgent, and off-the-wall AND pedantic, recursive, and analytical. I love that by being a writing I can also be a teacher, advocate, and activist. I love that the more of us who write, the bigger our conversations grows and the more and more and more we all have to read! I love to hear about others' writings just because I have labored to put some out there. What do YOU like about writing??? (less)

She Didn't Get Lost

I am happy to report that, after Ophelia's first day of school, she loved being out there in the world, and she didn't bite anybody!!!

Please let me know if she bit you or your child. I am a nervous mama, and would like to apologize and send you some salve if she used her teeth. I swear we're working on this.

Yours,
Beth
