Moving to London, or indeed any big city, can be absolutely life-changing and I wanted to include a character who moved from another part of the UK, so that people would realise that London can be challenging for everyone who moves there. I also didn't want to have just one female protagonist, I wanted to include two very different characters to demonstrate the different types of transformation. George, who is a secondary character, is very different to both Zara and Penelope, and she is a good grounding force as the other two characters experience huge transformation. Both of my female MCs go through huge changes, but in very different ways. A lot of people are loving Zara, and I'm delighted that readers are relating to her and to her struggles. (less)

I go off and do something else and the inspiration starts flowing again. Getting stressed about being blocked only makes it worse. (less)
