Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
I really didn’t “get and idea” or have an inspiration. I experienced a catalyst.

At the time, I was a reading specialist at an elementary school. I sat in the principal’s office…not sent there…but discussing programs with him. He got a phone call and asked if I minded it he took it. After a brief exchange, he said, “Well, I have Captain Linik sitting right next to me,” and handed me the phone.

The call was from a journalist on the local newspaper. He was writing a article for the Memorial Day edition and had asked my principal, “Do you know any veterans who aren’t Rambos. I tired of talking to them.”

We made an appointment for him to come to the school and interview me the following week. As the meeting approached, I thought that I should anticipate some questions and jot some notes because, obviously, this guy knew how to ask questions. The interview went well and he wrote a complimentary article. A few weeks later, I couldn’t get to sleep and finally got up, went to my home office, spread the notes out and started writing on 5x7 cards. That started a 30-year long journey to create a novel. Earning a living kept getting in the way.(less)
